I am sitting here ripping CDs, iPod in my pocket, noise-cancelling headphones resting gently on my happy little ears listening to my own personal eclectic mix of music.
JOY!
I had been looking at used iPods online (Ebay, refurbs, etc.) I told my husband I was bidding and he said he could find one cheaper. I had my doubts since I am the computer geek in the family. (I mean he is a geek, but I am Queen Geek.) Well lo and behold the man came through! Warehouse.com has the NEW Mac version for sale 20 GB for $294. Ordered it without hesitation, put the iPaq up for sale on Ebay (to ease the pain), and received it two days later. Even the BOX is cool!
Alas I had no firewire card yet, but found a cheap one on Ebay (then read of problems with cheap firewire cards). Fortunately got the firewire card yesterday and it works perfectly.
Since I have a PC I had a little concern about reformatting the iPod, so I took the time that I had to research (oh wow, this song sounds phenomenal...wow...wow) as much as I could. Found this site and a number of others that said "Just download the Win iPod updater, follow the directions, and you're golden."
Worked like a charm!
Right now I'm using MM to move files over, but I'll check out Ephod later on and see if that doesn't do it for me.
Initial impressions:
-Very sexy looking
-Clean
-Feel like the interface could be more colorful since the technology is out there, but compared it to one of my students' Archos and it is MUCH easier to read. Clean looking.
-Firewire transfer is speedy.
-Ripping CDs takes forever and a bloody day when you just want to get some music onto your new toy.
-Since I don't have the original CD that came with the PC version (just the Mac software) I can't get it to work with Audible yet (I'm a book listening freak). I'll have to figure that out or contact Apple to see if I can buy a CD of software from them.
-Sound is amazing. I like the EQ setting. Nice.
Overall I am very VERY happy with it! I hope it stays that way!
