So I'm still on the fence when it comes to deciding which ipod will replace my 5g. I don't think I'm going to get a classic because I don't need to carry 80 gigs with me. its all about the nano and touch for me. I like that the ipods with click wheels can be controlled through a pocket without looking. I really want the touch, but I'm worried about rain drops messing it up. My university is going to experience heavy rain until march and I don't know how well I'm going to be able to manipulate the touch in my coat pocket without exposing it to rain. I understand that all electronics shouldn't be exposed to water, but it is almost inevitable that rain will find its way onto the face of my ipod. If I get the touch, what kind of rain protection can I purchase?

A basic case will protect it from the rain, wouldn't let rain prevent you from getting what you want.

Unless you're Aquaman...then you might have a problem...

Yes, and no - it typically would, but with the touch screen, it has to be left exposed... might still get water in the cracks and around the edges if it's really coming down :(

there is litmus paper somewhere in the ipod touch (near the earbud hole?) and it can be detected if sufficient amounts go in, and supposedly Apple won't give you warranty then. I dunno though, I've had rain on my surface sometimes but I'm always quick to wipe it off with something smooth and nonabrasive.

You don't have to leave the Touch screen exposed, there are many shields/covers that work with the Ipod Touch (not sure about waterproof). My co worker uses a full case that has a thin screen that covers the Touch's screen and so far he has no issues with it. I wouldn't base a desicion on which to buy on rain, there are ways to protect it.

Alright. I've been doing some research on the cases available and the griffin iclear looks really nice. Are there any other cases that touch owners recommend? I still need to get a chance to play with the touch, the apple stores are always packed around the holidays!

Just buy a remote for it if you are that worried.

Don't worry about that....It rained on my iPhone sometimes, often large heavy drops.

If you just brush 'em off you'll be fine. Sorry, but this really is a foolish reason to not get a product.
