So I was wondering if there was any way to get my school's wireless internet. I mean we have laptops that are wireless. Every teacher has a wireless laptop. In every room there are hp routers to boost the connection. I don't have one yet (an iPod touch that is) but my friend does. In class he gets a really good wireless signal, and it shows in the top with the bars. But when he goes into safari I can't exactly remember what it says but something prevents him from connecting. Anyone have a solution? I used to be able to connect to my middle school's wireless with my PSP, what would the difference be between middle school and high school. I mean it gets all of the info such as IP and all of that good stuff. or do they just make it so that no one can connect to the wireless? Can someone please help me?
Most likely you're going to need a password in order to access wifi at school. I know someone with a touch and he wasn't able to connect without one.

At our school, even though the network isn't secured, you can't access it unless your MAC address is verified.

In my job I travel around to schools and log into their networks a lot. Trust me, they have encryption up the wazoo to limit exactly what you're talking about. Leaving an unencrypted network out there these days is just opening themselves up to litigation issues.

Well, just today a friend of mine was online using a PSP, how can this be different than using an iPod touch on the network?

It's not, really. It looks like you'll be able to.

But one thing, my other friend with an iPod touch it gets a strong signal, get all the IP info blah blah blah but when he opens safari some message comes up. I will ask him tomarrow what specifically it says but there is an error message. He also knows that his wifi works, he uses it at home, what could be the problem?

alright, so today in school it said Safari can not connect to the server. Could a possible reason that is doesn't work is that the PSP has some other kind of browser? or anyone have any other suggestions?

I'm having the same problem at my school. Safari seems to load the page, but after about a minute it says that it cannot access the server. You have to talk to the IT person in your school and give them the mac address of your iPod. This might work, although it didn't for me. Apparently my school's firewall is rejecting iPod touches for some reason.

there's not much to figure out,
Either you get your encryption code to log on, and /or ... you need your mac address
added to their database. If the school doesn't want you on, then can make it so that only the mac addresses on their list, have any access to the net. So you can have all the bars you want, and you'll never get on.
It's nothing new, nothing magical, they do this so you can't connect.
It's very unlikely your friend's psp connects and the Touch doesn't. In fact,
it just isn't possible. If the PSP connects, then the Touch will also.
The Touch is MUCH more powerful in terms of wifi than the PSP is, so if out of any,
the Touch would be the one having fewer problemos.
If you want access, why not ask the school admin, at least you'll get the info
straight from them, and you'll know what's going on. Nothing wrong with asking.

I've talked to the tech guy before. He says that it's on the allowed mac address list, but it's still not letting me through. Anyway, the school lost power last night and all of the servers had to restart. I can now use the internet. Maybe it was just a glitch. Maybe they didn't have the authentication list up yet. I'll see if the wifi works tomorrow.
back in my day the internet didn't exist to the general public. We actually had to talk to the people we went to school with and read books and distract ourselves with spit wad wars, paper football, napping, and other stuff. And we had to walk 10 miles to and from school... both ways... in the snow... dodging horse drawn carriages... and the bathrooms were in the back yard.

im only 19 but we still didnt have all this #### back then. i didnt pay attention in class but thats because im an engineering student and was smarter then the teachers. i pray for the current k-12 youth, dont let other kids fool you, education is extremely important.
Im not judging you or saying you're dumb. I'm just saying, you better have your head on straight and actually graduate so you can go to a good college (preferably top best in the nation for what you want to do in life)

Considering I want to direct porn, I'm not sure if the right college exists for me.

A good rule to use (when places require a password) is to think of something relative to the place. Two eamples below
x
At school I was able to get in using the name of the school mascot.
and once when I stayed in a hospital(I think it was one of those catholic ran hospital's) I typed in jesus or god or something religious(because as said it was ran by catholics) for it.
both times I got in. But usually this works for places where not everybody is used to using complicated passwords.
of course, i was bored and on number one the teacher told me it anyways. lol

moved to iPod touch forums. And please keep the conversation civil and away from the porn. And for my two cents, there is no reason to use your touch at school other than to avoid learning.
