Help needed - iPod keeps playing when I pause it

Sometimes, when I pause my iPod, it will stop the elapsed time/time remaining numbers and stop the music, but when I unpause it, it will play from a later point in the song, as if it kept playing silently while it was paused.

Example: I'm listening to a song when my friend and I walk past each other. I pause the song at 0:16. We chat for a minute or so, then I walk off and unpause the song - which begins playing at 1:20 or so.

Can anyone help me with this?

At first was was going to tell you that you may have run into a bug where if you press play and then immediately pause it it will appear paused, but not really be, what you explain is something different.

How often does it happen? Perhaps you are pausing just as the iPod has decided to spin up to fill the buffer and it misses the pause command. That seems to be the problem with the other situation. My suggestion, you may need to check to make sure it really has paused when you stop to chat.
