Just purchased a 16GB iPod touch and lovin it!
Also picked up an iClear case to protect it. I noticed the screen protector kept having lots of air bubbles in it.
(Plus my hands were kind of dirty as well and there were questionable specks of something in between the protector and the screen)
Final decision = ripping off the screen protector and just using the iClear case.
Now, I've been told that the glass is fairly scratch resistant and it's actually the bezel next to the glass that is prone to scratches.
I have the bezel protected with the iClear case but was wondering if I needed anything else to protect the screen?
I've been searching online and found quite a few screen protectors that can be applied without air bubbles ruining the sleek look of the device but wanted to see if anyone would actually recommend using them before splurging. (Some of them are quite expensive. Almost as much as the entire iClear protective case itself!)
Thanks! Hope everyone is enjoying their iPod touch as much as I am now!

It is very easy to not get air bubbles with the iClear screen protector. But i'd have to show you, its hard to explain. Anyways, if I were you, I would get some kind of screen protector. The screen is fairly scratch resistant - not scratch resistant.
Actually, if I were you, since I'm a bit picky, I would return the iClear and exchange it for a new one (say the first one didnt fit correctly or something). This time, completely clean the iPod, and your hands, and apply the screen protector with OUT getting air bubbles inside. Then apply the iClear. But thats just me.
Anyways, I would keep the screen protected somehow - you never know it might get scratched. Good lucK!

Hey asmallchild I had this problem too..and i threw away the case thing..so I had trouble opening my case lol to fix the bubbles....so the bottom right corner is kind of ####ed..im just gonna buy another iClear..after looking around..its still the one that appeals to me the most.. and yeah, that pricing is why im just grabbing another one.

These protectors actually work pretty well, but it's kind of a "skill" - you need to kind of drench the protector then squeegee the excess water off. And then WAIT 24 hours before using it so it can dry completely (and so you don't mess up any electronics that got damp).
But I've seen more than one case of someone thinking scratch resistant meant no scratches at all and then got a nice big gash across their screen.

actually, what i have done is not even worry about the front/screen. they are super durable and i have not had a single scratch since i got my touch 3 weeks ago.

I would have been worried about the screen too had I not seen this video first...

I'm not going to tempt fate and go to town with it like this guy did, but I'm pretty confidant now that I'd really have to manhandle this thing before it would get a scratch on the screen.

Instead of using the screen protector that came with the iclear I bought the anti-glare screen protector from Boxwave. It gives the screen a matte look but works great. You can barely tell it's there when the touch is on, plus it also is relatively fingerprint resistant.

Wow.
1) I can't tell if that's an optical illusion or my new purchase really is that durable and awesome!! (I'm banking on the latter :P)
2) The maker of that video is gutsy. I'm not sure I'd have the heart (or cash) to bring a razor blade to the screen of a 2 day old $400 device.

Well, keep your fingers crossed -- I seen several posts from people who thought as you did and lived to regret it. One guy had a couple of grains of sand in his pocket and they did a number on the screen...

I heard alot of things about the Itouch's screen, well being curious I took out my keys, laid my newly purchased touch on the desk and proceeded to run my key across the screen several times, with some force. Then dropped a few coins on it, rubbed em on the face... to my suprise ZERO scratches, blemishes or anything that would show I had used a key on it. I watched a Youtube video, and called BS!! So gave it a go myself and it truely was amazing to see how resistant the screen is. I don't baby it and other then a rubber case so it's easier to hold on to. No screen protector will ever be used for me. 100% waste of money based on what I have seen.

Do you mean that Youtube video I posted earlier? I'm just happy to take the video submitters and now your word for it. I'm convinced they are using the same scratch resistant coating they use on glasses. I've had a pair of glasses with that coating on it for a couple of years now and not a single scratch on them at all. Mind you I wear safety glasses over top of them at work. I've had them for a couple of years and they are still in as great condition as the day I got them. I'd be hard pressed to believe they are using anything other than the same exact coating used in eye wear for scratch resistance.. It's expensive stuff, but that also accounts towards the cost of the iPod Touch and the iPhone.

Yes, I did watch the link you posted above, there is also a few "CNET" reviews ont he Iphone where they put it in a zip lock bag with coins, shake it, mash it up, then drop it on the counter, the floor, outside on the pavement etc.. Whatever the screen is, it may shatter or break from a blunt or sharp object hitting it, but it's very tough and scratch resistant, I figured it's gonna happen sooner or later so best to find out right out of the box!

even better, BSE has THE BEST clear almost seamless skins for almost any iPod made. its $7.99 for the whole set (front and back protectors). it may be a little time consuming to apply but its def worth it. check it out for yourself. Isn't that just the invisible shield, but cheaper?

yes, but you can also just buy the front screen protector if you want for i think $5.99. to be honest they are pretty much exactly the same as the invisible shield except they don't over charge you.

iWrap is also the same, but iWrap is one piece for the whole thing.
