I would definately say iPod Touch. Come on, for 5 generations now, you've had to deal with a circle and a button the middle. And a regular screen dimension. Its time for a change - time for a bigger screen, time for wi-fi, time for sliding (instead of spinning) - time for touch!

classic-2.5 inch screen, classic scroll wheel, black OR silver, bigger space, games, cheaper, hd capabilities
touch-bigger screen, holds less, internet, itunes, jailbreak, smaller battery life.
read ilounge's reviews on them.

The big question is what do you need?
Do you need to go for a week plus away from your computer with no access to download new music/videos? Classic
Do you want to be able to surf the web? iPod Touch
Do you want to be able to jailbreak and add PDA-type applications? iPod Touch
Can you deal with "only" 2000 songs and 5 movies? iPod Touch
The Classic's big advantage really is storage - some people can't imagine not having every single song with them. The iPod Touch is the flexibility.
Good luck!

And of course, something that made a big deal to me beyond space itself, was the hard drive vs. flash based memory. For someone who's had hard disks fail in previous iPods (granted, over YEARS of use...), I'm all about the new technology for media. Long live Flash!! :D

One thing though, the longevity of a touch remains to be seen. My iPhone is holding up pretty well. But, all it takes is a single, 1/8th inch part of the touch/iPhone screen to fail to leave several operations non-functioning. If I bought a touch, I'd definitely see if there's an extended warranty available through Apple.
Keep those in consideration, and also think about what you need. Remember, the Touch is full of features, but if you are active, switching songs/albums/etc. can be cumbersome. There is no physical volume button, so you have to use the screen to raise/lower volume.
On the other hand, it does have a cool interface that's perfect if you're just sitting around, the video looks great (at least in my opinion.. the ones on display at Best Buy don't have the issues I've heard of) and you get some nice wi-fi features.
The Classic is what you'd expect with some bugs that need ironed out, but I love having my entire media library in my pocket. With a couple of updates, hopefully it will be up to it's full potential or close to it.

the idea that an ipod can access the internet is an amazing deal breaker as well.
but the classic is a very nice ipod.
i'm going for both. :D

I went with the Ipod Touch (actually traded off my 80gig 5th gen video for it) and am very happy with my choice. I wondered if the 16gig from 80gig was going to be missed. Personally I don't miss it at all. Sure I had 30 or 40 gigs on my old Ipod but if I'm honest with myself I rarely used more then a couple gigs a day. 2500 songs, big deal, your only going to listen to a handful a day, and if you don't know what you like, well that sounds like a personal problem. I load up 10 or 12 movies another 20 or so music video's/pod casts etc.. and keep about 1000 songs on it full time. I find myself using the Touch 100x more around the house because I can access the web and listen to music and not have to sit at the computer. I can relax and kick back in the recliner or anywhere I please and use my Ipod Touch as a media device way more then I ever did my 5th gen Ipod Video.
I am so glad to be rid of that wheel and the endless spinning to even go thru a few hundred songs, the Touch's interface blows it away. I can get to the song/album or video way faster and let's face it, even at 3.5" it's a small screen, but it is big step up from the Video considering the form factor of the device is actually thinner then what I used to have. I have ZERO regrets and while I can't wait to see a 32gig or larger version out, I don't see any reason to go back to the "wheel" or the HDD ipods anytime soon. Good Luck with you choice, the Touch was mine!
