My iPod was fully charged. I sat here and listnened to music and just played around with the device for about 30 minutes. Bam, half the battery is gone. Whats the deal? I thought battery was supposed to be long?

Btw, my EQ is on Treble Booster, and my brightness level is about halfway.

Did you leave some apps on in the background? To completely close an app, keep the home button pressed for about 5 seconds, else it uses CPU cycles in the background. Also, is wi-fi on?

yes wifi was on.

Wait, can you explain the background apps thing again? I'm not quite sure what you mean...

When you quit the app, I imagine you pressed the home button and returned to the main menu.

If you do that, they still run in the background. You have to hold the button for about five seconds to really "quit" them.

It's basically the equivalent of desktop OS X, where closing the window doesn't mean the app has quit, you actually have to tell it to.

Also, if this is the first time, the battery may need to be "conditioned" a bit first.

What if i turn off my iPod? Will it close all of my apps?

And also, I just turned off my iPod and turned it back on - and now the batteries almost dead! what gives? Does it take half the battery life to turn on/off my iPod?

I think your battery is defected. no matter what somebody explained here, it's not matter. application is opened and running background or not, you should get the battery life what apple says.

You might need to condition the battery - http://www.apple.com/batteries/

However, the startup routine does drain lots of battery - better to put it to sleep.

Other question is - did you jailbreak your iPod Touch? If so, by default, SSH is turned on which speeds up battery use. You can install Services.app or use the SSH application to turn it off.
