today, I found a Zune on sale for $100, and decided that it would be pure genius for me to get the iPod touch AND the Zune. this way, I can use the touch for podcasts, pictures, ect, and the 30gb zune for the big stuff, like full movies and stuff.
Has anyone else done this?

No, I haven't done that. I have plenty of room on my 16GB touch. Why would you want to watch movies on the smaller Zune screen?

it's only half an inch difference, lol. I greatly prefer iPod, but I have tons of movies and stuff, and there's no way it would all fit on my touch. I'll probably actually do it the other way around, with podcasts on the zune, and videos and pictures (along with apps) on the touch. The reason I'm doing this is because I don't plan to take my touch to school. My 5G video got stolen out of my front pocket, and I can't risk that with my touch. So, I'm going to bring the super-cheap zune with me instead.

Ummm..its a mere 1/2 a inch smaller in screen size to your iPod Touch and has twice the capacity...the new Zune 80 is only 3/10ths of a inch smaller in screen size.
plenty of room on a 16GB Touch? Ok thats like what 10 movies and a couple hundred songs?

O.K. but the resolution on either Zune is only 320x240 vs. the iPod's 480x320. That's a huge difference.

I have about 100GB of video alone, so I'm never going to be able to carry all my content on either device. I give about 8GB to audio and the rest for video. I can't watch more than a few movies a night anyway, nor listen to all my music. Some of us like to have everything with us, and some don't worry about it. I have plenty of choice with 16GB.
No matter what, Zune doesn't work on the Mac, so it's a non-player for me.

I admit I was torn between getting a Zune 80 or a 8 gig iPod Touch.. The Touch won out. :) However I can understand why you would go with the Zune if you are using Windows Mediacenter. The latest Zune software allows you to transfer stuff you recorded on Mediacenter and given that media center recordings tend to be in the neighborhood of 3 gigs an hour, you need all the space you can get. This makes perfect sense to me if this is the scenario you are using it for.

I can't believe 16gb is not enough space to carry tons of music and about 5 movies and 80+ podcasts. That's what I have right now with about 4 gig left over. It's easy enough to change content daily. I also have a 160gb classic, which is used as a jukebox unless I go away for more than a weekend and don't intend to take my laptop with me.

Considering you can buy a 250gig external HDD for under $100.00, I just store all my music and video's there and transfer what I want video wise when I hook up to charge in the evening. I carry about 1000 songs, 500 or so pictures, 8 or 10 movies *MPEG 4* format and plenty of Podcasts or Music video's. 16gig will hold alot of media if you know how to encode the video and are realistic about what you are going to use.
Buying another Ipod, say a classic 160gig for 350 would be an option when they make a cable and a interface on the touch to directly manage media from an Ipod Classic to an Ipod Touch. Until that day comes, I'll stick to another HDD and sync it when I need to swap something out.
