Alrighty now, I need to figure out what I want for christmas. I really have had no experience with either of these products. I really would like to get a 16gb iPod touch, especially after my friend showed me his jailbroken iPod touch. But then the other day one of my brother's teachers brought in a Wii to play on the smart board, my brother said it was one of the best things he has played with.

Now I know I couldn't get both of them...Unless I really convinced my parents that the Wii is actually a good thing for the whole family. Which it really is, that is what I like about it...I could play with my whole family with it. Personally I have no experience with it though so I don't know how good it is, but I have heard that it is just awsome. But I have heard the same thing about the iPod touch (except for the defective units). Can someone with first hand experience with these items tell me if they are worth getting?

I personally find the ipod much better. I have a wii, and just the lack of portablility makes it a little worse off than the ipod.

I suppose it comes down to which you want more -- a game console or a portable media player. You probably have a good chance of convincing your folks that a Wii would be a good family thing, but with the supply shortages again this year your odds of actually getting a hold of an iPod Touch are exponentially greater.

I have no experience with the iPod Touch personally (I'll be getting myself one for Christmas), but I do own a Wii and think it's a worthwhile thing to have. I mostly use mine for web, news and the weather and "retro" gaming (or "stuff I played when I was a teenager") and can see how I'd get a lot more use out of it if I didn't live alone.

I guess that this thread can just be left if they aren't going to move it...I know that there are shortages with the wii. Also for quite a while I have been talking to my parents about an iPod touch. So most likely I will get a touch. Though yesterday at Thanksgiving I think I might have convinced my uncle to get a wii...lol...he is into sports and plays them such as tennis and golf, and he thought that it was a neat idea. So he might be getting one anyway! If I don't get a wii for christmas I guess I might buy one myself, they really do look worth while.
Also the retro games like mario, do you have to buy those, because those look pretty neat. I would appreciate more opinions also :) . THANKS

Virtual Console games have to be bought, between $5 and $10 (or the equivalent in Wii Points).

You're not likely to get a Wii this year because of the shortages, I'd say go for the iPod touch. I have a Wii, by luck only.

The wii might be a better family and social experience, but I'd be careful because the whole novelty sort of wears off after about a week or two. There really aren't that many games that utilize the wii-mote to its best, and you'll see a lot of repetitive motions and mini-games. Personally, I'd go for a 360 if you're more of a hardcore gamer, plus the better third party support.

I have both, it matters what you use it for. If you already have an iPod, just go for the wii you can get more for your money =P

Don't know what you're doing to your iPod Touch, but mine crashes MAYBE once a week, if that... And yes, I've even jailbroken it and have a dreaded Week 37, and it's still clipping along from music to video to Safari to Mail to Installer to VNsea with no problems... If yours is crashing every 3 seconds, either restore it or go get it replaced by Apple.

It's using a complex operating system not some thousand line of code firmware. Does Windows every crash on you? Does your Mac?

Yes, I would like to see it never crash, but I even restart my PC & Mac once or twice a week...:D

Well I already hae a 360, so really I do like more hardcore games like halo 3. And I do have an ipod, a 30gb video. So I know that I would most likely get an iPod touch, but is a Wii something to be worth looking at maybe after christmas where there is actually a supply of them again?

I'd go with the Wii since you already have a 30GB video. The novelty factor of the Touch wears away quickly and you get a sick feeling everytime your $300 piece of equipment acts up on you. It's terrible.

lolomfgbbq wow uhh yeah. Obviously.

You *will* have more luck finding an iPod touch for sale in any old store, that's fa sho. We were getting 30 calls per 3 hours for those Wiis leading up to Christmas. And uhh, wii still ain't gotten them..
