Its been some weeks with lots of thinking guys.
I couldnt decide wich hd based player to get.
First i was sure that i was gonna buy the iriver ihp 100 for 500 euros but as its been postponed i think the word is im not gonna buy it because i want my player with my on my vacation.

Then i got an offer on a site like ebay but a swedish version of it to buy a used 10 gig gen 2 ipod for about 220 euros.

This seemed like a good buy to me but then i saw the pictures on this site from the review of the new ipod and then i realized that its a pretty big difference in size between those 2 players.

So im now gonna buy a 10 gig 3rd gen ipod for about 320 euros. New of course.
My biggest conscern was that the battery life is to bad bt the i relized that i dont need more then 8 hours a day of battery time.

I thought also that if i would go on a travel o like thailand wich is a plane ride for 16 hours from sweden i could buy a belkin battery pack.

So dudes im now gonna be the owner of an ipod.

Ive also heard that the battery on the new ipod will not lose power like the old batterys would.
I have read this on some page that apple has done something with the player or firmware to do so.
Do you know if its true.

i think the ipod is the only portable at the moment that has a small battery accessory kit (belkin) for those long flights. It (according to apple) gives 20 hours !!! then you also have 8 hours from the internal 28! So if you think about it you can have 28 hours from regular sized mp3 player albeit with all the style quality and panache of the ipod or the uber small and light 8 hours version for day to day. I reckon this is best of both worlds. In fact the moer i think about it the more i like the new ipod battery setup!

well dudes i changed my mind again
I have been going on wich one i should buy and now i think ill go for the iriver ihp-100

It has got 16 hours of battery time and almost the same dimension just about 3 mm thicker.

It also got a wired lcd display remote control, optical in, optical out and a Fm tuner.

The downside is that its 100 dollars higher in price then the 15 gig version ipod (because i got 10% discount at apple) and it only has 10 gig hd.

But i choose the iriver for the moment almost just because of the battery time because i dont want to wory if the battery will die before the day is over and stuff like that.
I dont now if i would worry if i had a 3rd gen ipod but it feels like i would.

Do you guys think im doing a good choice???

15G 3gen ipod is right choice, at least i don't worry about the life of battery now,it has 500times recharge and i think after these500 times recharge ,there are a lot of people has same situation same as mine ,and they will make apple do something to change the battery ,in fact now there already have some people who replace the battery by themselves, that replace work looks not very hard ,just little worry about the SONY battery for ipod where to buy ,but now i just enjoy with my ipod ,show it to people and i love it so much , the important thing to me is ipod bring happiness to me .

the problem isnt the cycle and that it dies after a while because all rechragable batteries do so.

My worries is that if i have my ipod and lets say i change tracks and stuf quite alot the batterie might just be able to play for 6 hours because my collection is also in 192 kb so it drains a little more batterie and i also would like to have the eq on so the batterie will only last ca 6 hours in my use.

Then i must worrie all the time that the batterie wont play all day and i dont want that.

I think you have to ask yourself if it is likely that you will use your player ALL day EVERY day?

~The iPod will play uninterupted for around 7.5 - 8 hours ( I clocked mine at 7 hours 50 minutes. I use the EQ though quite often the sound the iPod seems to produce to my ears doesnt require modification.

As mentioned in the post above there is also the option of the battery pack giving you HUGE battery life.

In terms of size, build quality and sheer style, I dont think there is anything out there yet to touch the 3rd Gen iPod.

As for having a digital screened remote, I have had these in the past on minidisc players I have owned, oddly enough I dont seem to miss/need it with the iPod - It could be that you build playlists so you have an idea of what is coming up next.

Whatever you do choosegood luck. I for one would heartily recomend the iPod.

Well I probarly will use the player all day quite often because i work in a factory where its great to listen to music while you work because you work for youreself.

Ipod sure is quality but Iriver is also known to have great quality of their product.
One thing that i just cant stand with the new ipod and is one thing that makes me not wanna buy the ipod is the lack of ability to playback mp3s wich is the use of the player.

How the h*** didnt Apple hear that annyoing tick between the tracks.
Dont they have any control of their products before they release it on the market?

Well it probarly will be solved in a f?ture firmware upgrade but thats what im questioning.
Maybe that tick cant be solved because i dont think that they would release a mp3 player that cant play mp3s properly.

Then im stuck witha a great player that cant play tracks without that tick between the tracks and then it isnt such a good player anymore.

You guys who have bought the 3rd gen ipod isnt you worried about that the tick never will dissapear??

i dont understand how people can make such a big about ticks, whining noises, ive only noticed them when i have the f***in pressed against my ear, and the tick well thats all it is its a tick i didnt even notice it until everyone started whining about it.....and im pretty #### sure apple will fix it with a firmware update. but thats just my dos centavos...

If you go for the ipod and i really recommend it .... make sure you buy from an american store or american apple store. Do not buy through the european apple chain as they will give you the european model (obviously) but this has got crap volume. Its max volume is half of what the ipod's potential is and is half the volume the americans and rest of the world get. This is because of a stupid french law. This is the only issue that were i you, that i would consider. Incidentally, having talked to apple care and an ipod specialist technical support engineer today, about this problem. The ipod IS localised. As in the ipods worldwide are using the same hardware but the software disc you get with it which installs the ipods firmware is different to the one you get in america. This means that unless you know someone with the american software disc there is no way to trick the installer into installing the american firmware by changing your computers region settings. In fact the american firmware is nowhere to be found on the european disc. Definately buy from america. I am returning my ipod 30gig, because of this. When i get my money back im gonna go and order straight from the states.

Wow, the french find another reason for me to hate em. Nah just jokes, I live in Canada, we got frenchies infesting out country all over ! :P jk again. But yah, thats insane, they should be able to offer the same product everywhere. Is there a way of checking if the ipod is from europe or the usa? I think mine is from the usa, im just wondering. Back on topic, about the battery life , etc. I have 30GB 3G ipod. It's been so great, a nice big screen, games, backlight, alarm clock, the settings. The support from this forum, its all been a great experience. Ive managed to drain my ipod completly twice. Well if your at work, just buy the extra battery pack, thats no biggie. I highly recommend the iPod, and would be dissapointed if you didnt get one too. I guess I do have a biased opioion, but yah, i almost got the Zen NX because of the battery life crisis problem too. But then I changed my mind and just told myself all the other features on the ipod made it way more worth it. THE PORTABILITY!!! ITS AMAZING. =)

The iRiver and the iPod are like the two most talked about devices on these boards, and if you want my opinion, get the iPod. If you don't want it for it's beauty or for it's enormous capacity, buy it for this site. This site is AWESOME! It's like tech support only friendly and fast and free!
