This here is a thread for folks to post links to artist sites that offer legal downloads.

I'll start:

Over the Rhine - http://overtherhine.com/music/mp3attic/index.html

Mike Doughty (ex-Soul Coughing singer) - http://artists.mp3s.com/artists/404/mike_doughty.html

Tom Waits (click on album covers) - http://www.anti.com/tom.php

The Walkmen - http://www.marcata.net/walkmen/music.htm

that'll do for today...

There are no music downloads, but there is streaming content and some flash animation music videos. There is also a trailer for the lips' upcoming film.

remix.overclocked.org (http://remix.overclocked.org)

Arrangements of all sorts of game music. A lot of it is quite good. They have solo piano, smooth jazz, a lot of trance, plenty of real guitars, and a ton of other good music. The entire site's music collection is available for download for free. I only have a small fraction of the songs that they have available and my collection is 194 files taking up 725 MB.

for anyone into electronica in general, here's a load of way cool sites, one i'm going to mention again, just because they are so great...

www.thinnerism.com

deep techno, house, and dubtech. my 2nd favorite record label in the world. considering the first is basic channel/chain reaction/burial mix, that's saying a heck of a lot about these guys.

http://www.thinnerism.com/apl/index.php

thinner's sister label of ambient music. very nice stuff, sometimes they get all fun and glitchy.

http://www.miasmah.com/

downtempo stuff, techno stuff, a LOT of stuff. i haven't even begun to download all their music, and there is a LOT of it. what i have downloaded, most has made it to my ipod for regular listens.

http://www.adapteri.com/betoni/

DJ mixes. lots of stuff. mostly deep techno, but there's some variety to it. downside? their stuff seems to be all 128 kbs, whereas the above sites offer 192 kbs material. HOWEVER, the DJ mixes do feature top class underground techno tunes, even a few anthems any true electronica head will recognize, and the mixing is spot on! flawless stuff.

http://www.aabtek.com/

this site seems to be a gathering point for some artists (the infamous christian bloch is one of 'em) and fans and party goers. message board, etc., and mp3's here and there. it does, however, link to a HUGE amount of free mp3 sites. a lot i haven't mentioned here.

http://www.rohformat.de/

this site appears to be down due to the death of someone close to them. :( they had some really nice banging techno on here, nearest comparison i could give would be tresor. i don't know if they'll be back. i hope so. :(

http://www.circonium.de/

no free music here, but it is the ultimate fan based discography for my favorite type of stuff. yep. basic channel, chain reaction, and burial mix. loads of info on these mysterious techno experimentalists, and dare i say it, pioneers. check it out. great stuff.

http://www.scene.org

the great link between all mp3 record labels and sites of underground electronic music. everyone's hosted here, including thinner. thinner 35 was just released today, but thinner 36 is already here. go grab it, thinner fans. ;) seriously, EVERYTHING is here. so check that shiznit out, yo! there's a LOT to explore.

any questions? go exercise your broadband connection! :D
