HI guys. I know that generally people do not seem to favor the iTank. It is true it makes the nano much larger and bulky.
There is a trade off here that is simply If you want an indestructible NANO then you need something LIKE the iTank.
OK so that said the idea here is to create a case which provides ULTIMATE protection.
OK if you need that then the iTank is absolutely the way to go...to a point.
On the surface of it the iTank does exactly what it sets out to do. Here is my problem.
The question is does it do it with class or beauty. Now I know for a fact that working in aluminum is not all that difficult. What iTank is is a good idea some what well executed.
The thing is they have ignored the details. What could be a very beautiful hunk of polished aluminum turns out to be full of machine markes swirles and in need of a re Polish.
I am not even sure that I could have it polished without significantly altering the look since so much material would have to be taken off in order to achieve a smooth finish.
I can't imagine any of the BLACK units looking nice with the machine marks under the anodizing.
The long and the short of it is this.
The iTank is a great way to make your NANO virtually indestructible...I mean the Nano with one of these would be worthy of a trip on the space shuttle.
You see they put a lot of work into the design and manufacturing of them. and very little ...minimum I would say in the finish.
For me this is a spoiler. If I am going to haul around a hunk of aluminum I want to be responsible for it's battle scars. I don't want it to come with them built in.
It is like buying a pair of 501's which have been preworn and torn up. I hate that look of those jeans they are selling.
If they were going for that look it might have been different but they weren't they just couldn't be bothered to make the thing right so they did not have to do a whole bunch of work cleaning up the machine marks.
Lets hope they do a better job next time.
My next project is a Carbon fibre case for my Classic. I will report my findings when I have mine.
