I see WinAmp has soem new plugin that can put mp3s on my iPod, but I don't care about that. However it also said that it could play songs from my iPod on the computer...is that true? And if so, would the HD be constantly spinning?

I tried WinAmp and it works great.

But I'm worried about the battery. Does it run at normal speed or does the hard drive constantly spin?

If it constantly spins then this is worthless, it will only last like an hour and I'll probbly damage my iPod while I'm at it.

Looks like I need to find another way to play on a stereo (I know its easy...but WinAmp is cheaper than buying a cable or whatever).

are you against plugging the iPod directly into a stereo of set of speakers?

maybe its because you would like to have the ability to choose songs to play by way of your computer and not the iPod unit itself

if you have the iPod power supply hooked up, your iPod should be fine, i think.

Well I want to eventually just buy a wire and plug it into my stereo, but that is for later when I buy a wire.

What I'm referring to in this thread is a new plugin you can download for WinAmp in which you plug your iPod into the dock and it pops up in WinAmp, with a list of all your songs. You choose the song and it plays on your computer, but the iPod screen has the "Do Not Disconnect" screen.

While doing this would my HD be constantly spinning?

And how easy would it be to directly plug the iPod into speakers? I never thought of that. Can I just plug the speaker into the iPod instead of the computer? Are the wires the same?

oh man, you have no idea how EASY it is! if you have speakers plugged into your copmuter through the headphone jack, just plug the speakers into the ipod's headphone jack instead.

if youre worried about that hard drive spinning, you can easily tell if it is spinning by holding onto it with your hand, and feeling the ipod for vibrations (when the HD is read from, you can feel s slight vibration)

you can also go to radioshack and pick up a cable for less than ten bucks that will plug into any stereo with rca jacks from an 1/8in phono (headphone) jack

I'm 15 with no allowance and no job. It might as well be a house. :p

EDIT: Wow, that is easy! Thanks! :D

I know this sounds like a weird solution but it does keep the iPod cool if you are that worried.

1. Take an icepack, a hard one, that is about as big as the iPod (or bigger).

2. After freezing it, wrap it with two layers of paper towel, so no water gets on it, and set it where you put your iPod.

3. Set the iPod on it, and it stays cool even while the hard drive spins.

Some cool ideas but plugging my dock into the speakers works fine enough for me.
