My PC was corrupted and I had to reformat and install all my programs again. What I am worried about is that I have a lot of songs on my ipod.

Is there a way to save those??
I mean don't I have to format it again when I istall itunes and Ipod software?

If there is a way PLEASE let me know...

Thanks.

hope you find a solution

I dont quite get you, since your comp got problem and what is it going to do with your iPod, Since all your songs have been stored into the iPod, they are safe for sure, what to worry for?
When you first use your iPod, you have already formatted it, even if you reformat your com and reinstall the iTunes, the software arent going to ask you reformat again. No matter what no way iTunes can automatically delete your songs in the iPod by synchronization way. By the way, you can choose not to let the iTunes synchronmize with the iPod.

i thought that when the ipod is plugged in, and you open up itunes, it automatically runs autosync. because they have there pc formatted (and due to the fact they have no songs on it) autosync would delete all the songs from the ipod and put in what ever songs are on the pc back into the ipod.

...i could be wrong though, if i am right, then maybe you could just open up itunes (with the ipod not connected) and turn of autosync. then open up whats in the ipod by allowing hidden files to be shown and and copy the songs from the ipod control audio folder and paste them onto your hard drive.

hope that makes sense and helps in some way.

Thanks for the help, as long as autosync is off I found that it would not delete everything.

Just out of interest how do you turn autosync off? I thought you can only change the settings after the iPod appears connected in iTunes - and so won't it attempt to autosync before you get chance to change anything?

Cheers

The first thing you need to remember not to do is run the iPod software again. If you do, this will reformat your iPod and remove all the tunes.

There is no software required on your PC to make it work w/the iPod. You just need iTunes installed. So, install that and connect your iPod. As long as you're starting from a freshly formatted drive (that's important) iTunes will recognize that this iPod's never been connected to this computer before and it will ask you if you want to auto-update. Say NO to this message.

The other way to prevent auto-sync from starting when you connect the iPod is to hold the right mouse button down. Make sure you hold it down for quite a bit--until iTunes is fully started.

Right click on your iPod in iTunes, and select iPod Options. Then check 'Manually manage songs and playlists.

Then you can drag and drop to the iPod.
