Hello All

Hopefully someone will be able to shed some light on my problem.
I have a 3G, 20gig WINDOWS IPOD, running on Windows Server 2003, on a firewire card.

When I got the ipod, I installed the CD, running ITUNES and it all worked smoothly. IN the last week, I try docking it, the IPOD reads "do not disconnect", the ITUNES freezes for a minute or so (as if its trying to mount/read the ipod) and NOTHING..... Sometimes it says "unable to read IPOD" and prompts me to RESORE OR UPDATE, I click UPDATE and it says "unable to mount IPOD"... I have tried most things, from re-installing the CD, to reinstalling the FIREWIRE and it is not solving my problem.

What I am finding very annoying is that it worked fine a week ago and as though it has a mind of its own, it has just decided to not work anymore.

Any advice will be most appreciated

Thanks!

Have you tried to reboot the computer? A couple of days ago I had the same problem. Something appeared to be taking control of the iPod, and I couldn't update, or do anything with it. I stopped all programs that access it, and still couldn't get it to work, so rebooted and everything started working.

Kevv,

I too just purchased an iPod and came very close to buying an Apple computer just so it would work. I had a similar problem, which was flakey connectivity from iPod to iTunes. Windows would immediately sense the device but explorer would tell me that the drive wasn't formatted. I also noticed the hard drive on the iPod would click in rythm continuously like it was trying to park the heads or something.

First look in your device manager and see if any other HW is sharing the same IRQ. You can print a report that will tell you all IRQ assignments. If it is, see if you can re-assign so that the firewire card has it's own IRQ.

Secondly, confirm with Apple support if your firewire device has been certified. I bought a combo USB 2.0/firewire card and it wouldn't work. I replaced that with a Belkin (Apple friendly) firewire only card and everything began to work immediately.
