Although I am totally against stealing music from hard working artists, I would like to have access to a free mp3 downloading website in order to test out an artist before I buy their album. I've been told that Kazaa is free and limewire or linewire is too but the only links ive been able to find involve paying a monthly fee or a one-off payment of about $15-$30. I don't own a credit card or anything else like that so I can't pay for it unless its by cash, that is the whole problem.

all users, feel free to discuss such p2p programs, but refrain from posting links to illegal or questionable sites. i?m moving this to the "music - general" section. ed_rock seems to be a mac user, so post accordingly. thanks.

go to google and find Kazaa Lite K++. No spyware, no ads, free, and pretty fast. Best MP3 P2P prog since Napster

But Kazaa is not usable for the mac.
If you have a mac, you can use Limewire...
Also, you can go to www.cdnow.com (now owned by amazon), they do have samples from many albums they sell so you can listen to portions before buying.

Yeah, I often use www.cduniverse.com for the same thing. I find the quality of their streaming song samples to be generally better than amazon's.

The day amazon bought CDnow, i think i may have shed a tear.
CDnow was the site i used to look up albums, artists, and check out samples. then amazon bought it... and well now it's amazon.
sorry to go off topic here, but this one's close to my heart :P

Soulseek. I'm a fan of all music Japanese, and they have genre chatrooms where you can discuss music and look for new artists. This #### program has put a big drain on my wallet. Oh, and much better than kazaa, IMHO, because of the chatrooms.
emule is another choice.

If you're on a PC, download Rhapsody (from listen.com). If you don't register, you'll be able to listen to about 20 seconds (per song) of 56kbps on-demand music. It should provide what you need to evaluate songs.
