I have all three seasons of LOST on my computer from the iTunes store, but not all three will fit on the harddrive of my computer...I'm wondering if i had a ipod classic of anything with the capacity to hold all three seasons, could i store all three seasons on the ipod and but back them up and remove them from my computer because of a lack of space on my computer, but not lose them from the ipod when i sync it with itunes later???
THANKS!!!
Don't think so. You'll probably want to store this type of content on an external hard drive.

Honestly a external hard drive is in your future.
It is the safest and most practical thing to do to perserve your media.
However if you did want to do what you describe you could.
Once you sync with iTunes, you delete the file from the hard drive, but leave the alias in iTunes. This way the iPod thinks the file is still there and leaves it on the iPod though it can't sync any new information to/from iTunes.
Alternatively you can set your iPod to manually manage music and videos. You lose autosync perks, but you can "safely" delete from the computer if you keep your iPod on manual, but this can lead to issues later should you ever need to restore the iPod. BACK UP you MEDIA in MORE than ONE place! The iPod is not a safe place for the ONLY copy of your media.
I highly recommend getting an external.

that's what i would have said. i think as long as you have it stored on your ipod, you can always transfer it back to your itunes library at a later time. just keep it in manual sync and you should be ok

Just be advised that all it takes is a simple drop to the floor and your iPod may become unfuctional. It's a fine temporary solution, but considering you can get a nice 500gb external drive for under $150, I highly recommend studogvetmed's suggestion of an external.
