The update is out now. Engadget has the download, but I can't get to it right now. iTunes doesn't show there is an update available yet, but this often happens. You can download the firmware and then hit shift+restore in iTunes then point iTunes to where you download the firmware file.

If anyone discovers any new features, please share them.

One of the first things I notice is that there is now a battery indicator next to the iPhone logo in iTunes like the iPod Classic and Nano.

That's part of iTunes 7.5, not the 1.1.2 firmware.

I have 7.5 and don't see that on my ipod 5.5G or iPhone. I think the firmware of the device has to support it. So, technically, it's part of both.

Hmm. Could be. I only see the battery level on my Classic. Haven't updated iPhone yet. Good call, Dim.

Yes, I believe it's part of both. The iPod classic was showing the batter indicator, not the iPhone. I updated my iPhone, and now it shows the indicator through iTunes as well.

Nothing exciting about the update, really.

Is the update on iTunes yet? What's the delay?

User custom ringtones are working with iTunes 7.5 and the 1.1.2 Update.
1. Create a ringtone as mp3.
2. Import into iTunes.
3. Convert to ACC.
4. Rename extension to m4r.
5. Drag the file into the ringtones folder

Again: is this in iTunes yet? Why isn't it officially released yet?

How do I convert an individual file to ACC? I right-clicked on it, but the only option was to convert to .mp3 and it already was an mp3 file. Thanks.

You have to set the AAC format in your importing preferences first.

Adding custom ringtones works great, but do you think they really intended us to be able to do this or did it slip thru and may be quashed the next go round. It's not exactly a documented feature - Ive added a number of "custom" ringtones from cd conversions - edited down to 30 seconds in Audition.

Google, iPhone+ blog+ redeye and go to the first link. I can't post a link because I'm on my touch. Basically it is a good iPhone blog. He's been following this. You can only get 1.1.2 if you restore your iPhone, hasn't been released through the included iTunes updator yet. Suggests you wait a couple days till they officially release 1.1.2 to update.

You guys DO know that until this shows up on Apple's iTunes servers, it's not really an "official" release, right?

The new software version is now available through iTunes.

The new software version 1.1.2 was downloaded and installed onto my iPhone by iTunes this morning after I plugged in my iPhone. I'll let you know what differences I find.

I've updated to 1.1.2 software version for the iPhone and 7.5 for iTunes. So far the only new thing I've noticed is that in iTunes there is a little battery icon next to my iPhone under the Devices drop down. The battery icon's fill level appears to reflect the batterly level on the iPhone and there is a charging indicator (the lightening bolt) to indicate the iPhone is being charged.

Otherwise I've not noticed anything new with the iPhone software.

Why doesn't Apple release patch notes that detail all their bug fixes and updates?

That's the 64k dollar question. They stopped releasing detailed notes on their updates some time ago and have never explained why.

so has anyone found what these updates limit you to do?

If you don't know where the file is located, do a get info in itunes to find out, AFTER converting it to AAC. Then change the extension in explorer and drag it into the ringtones folder in the itunes app.

Did you import the mp3 into iTunes and use iTunes to convert to AAC?

tnutzinc
11-19-2007, 01:23 PM
no, does it only work if u do it that way? so I add mp3 to itunes then convert to aac? then how do I find that file I converted to aac with WE to change to .m4r?

Dumb Monkey
11-19-2007, 01:35 PM
When you convert to aac in itunes, right-click the newly converted file and choose Get Info. On the Summary tab it shows the file location at the bottom.

This is how I did it and it worked for me.

tnutzinc
11-19-2007, 02:11 PM
yes, that shows where the file is on my computer. when I right click the file, and convert it to aac, in itunes, I dont have to find the newly converted file cuz the one I just right clicked is the aac file, correct? Then I would just have to find the file on my computer and rename to m4r? then drag and drop?? I have done this a bunch of times and it aint workin! dont this works for everyone?

Dumb Monkey
11-19-2007, 02:18 PM
No, that's not correct. When you convert to aac, it should create a duplicate file, so you'll have one that's mp3 and one that's aac (m4a). Find the m4a file and change the extension to m4r.

eriqesque
11-19-2007, 02:23 PM
once you find the m4a and change the extension to m4r it will now say ring
Double click that file, it will load it to the ringtones playlist to be copied to the iphone.

tnutzinc

I think I got it to work, I converted, found them, they were m4a files, I changed them to m4r then dragged n dropped and they showed up in itunes ringtone folder, now when you sync and resync will they stay in there????

tnutzinc
11-19-2007, 02:36 PM
ok, I didnt see your post, I think thats what I figured out, it makes it an m4a file, then I change that file to m4r then drag and drop and it works!! cool!

Yeah...You got it.
Just make sure they appear in the ringtones playlist(they need to be here in order to sync) not just the ringtones folder in iTunes Music.
And like I said beofre once you change the extension
you don't have to drag it, just double click it and it will load it to the right places
It will go into the folder and in the playlist this way in one step.
