View Full Version : Are there any other Nano 2G Non-Sellouts Out There?

So, the 3G nanos, personally I don't see the point. I use mine to ride a bike/exercise, video doesn't matter. Plus I've got 8GB's (Project Red player in a color that actually looks good), why get something at the same capacity?
I like the 2G shape better, no uber scratch prone backside, Coverflow also isn't a big selling point for me. Plus the colors for all intensive purposes to me, well, pretty much suck. I could get a colored case, but if you put lipstick on a pig, it still oinks.
Now, if a 16GB player comes out, maybe I'd pay attention. There would have to be a color refresh for me to do this though. Maybe something like "Turtleneck Black," or "Ripped Denim Blue."
So are there any other 2G people out who still love their players, and refuse to sell out to Steve's master world domination plan?

I am a nano sell out, I don't like the nano line out of all the iPods I have I find myself using it the least...
If I don't want my HD based iPod I usually end up clipping the shuffle to my collar and going.
If the nano gets a 16GB capacity I might look into it, but for now the 3G isn't appealing to me.

I still love my 2G Nano because I really don't like the metal back that always gets scratched up. My 2G is in great condition and it has no case, just a screen protector.

I think you're over-generalizing here. Selling out?
Maybe a 2G nano owner wants video. Maybe their battery is dying and they don't want to pay a ridiculous fee for a new one. Maybe they got a 2 or 4 gb and want to upgrade to 8 gb. Maybe it broke. Who knows. What I'm trying to say is that just because your content with your nano doesn't mean that you have to right to judge the actions of others because you think you have the moral high ground. Just because someone got the new nano does not mean they're selling out. Just because you don't get the point doesn't mean you should criticize others who do.
I myself owned the 1G nano, but it was only a 1 gb. So I looked at this as the perfect opportunity to upgrade to 8 gb with the option of video, which I used to have using Linux on the 1G. Do I miss having iPL and all the games and utilities? Yeah. I loved having it because it was my first iPod, but it was definitely worth the upgrade. Does that make me a sellout?
Think about it for a minute.

I love my little 4 GB 2G nano in Green. however the only reason I am not upgrading is that I do not NEED video, I do not like the new form factor as it is probably wide enough that I would feel it in my pocket, and my 2G is barely over half full.
Have you considered the Sandisk Sansa View in 16 GB? it only costs $200 and comes out December 1st. always worth a look at least.

Well, I agree that I loved my 8GB red nano. The 3G doesn't compare in terms of color, shape, eye appeal or scratch resistance. I would not have bought a 3G exceot for the fact that my husband's mini died, so we needed to buy a new iPod. He only listens to audiobooks on his way to and from work, while I use mine more extensively. So I gave him my 2G and bought a 3G. One advantage is video podcasts--I've subscribed to a few, and I enjoy them. I also like to play games on long boring car trips. So I've found some advantages to the 3G.

Still using my 2G also.
I dont mind the new style/look of the 3G, -I just dont see any reason to move from 8gigs to another 8gig player.
Waiting patiently for the 16GB version to come out... just hope it's sooner rather than later, -cause that Cowon iAudio7 16gb player is looking mighty tempting.

Still using my 2G nano and will continue until there's actually a reason to change. The 3G nano failed to tempt me in multiple ways. I don't see the point in video, I have a 60GB 5G I got when they debuted in Oct 2005 and barely used the video on it AND stopped using the player altogether when I got the nano at the beginning of March. I love my iPod because it's superior for listening to audio than any other option I've ever used; it's just a novelty toy at playing video.
Other than video, it doesn't improve on the feature set much. Battery life and capacity are the same and physical size is the same but with a, to me, less preferable form factor. You theoretically get an improved interface, and if it all worked I'd call it a plus, but since it's still buggy as heck, why should I care?
Chrome back, 'nuff said.
I use smartlists to automate moving on and off 98% of the content of my nano - it might as well be a 1 TB nano as far as I'm concerned. The bugs on the 3Gs render this automation, at best, very unreliable.
Since I don't even need much more than 5GB of actual space for a week's worth of music, podcasts, and audiobooks, even the potential of a 16GB next spring is probably not going to be enough to get me to give up the better design of the 2G. It didn't leave me as disappointed as the 1G nano did next to the 2G mini, but it's still a swing and a miss from my perspective.
3 and counting

Still got the 2G nano here. I like it better than the 3G, the form factor is much better for a nano than the 3G.

The 3rd gen nano screen is absolutely gorgeous, so is the new interface, and I`m not talking simply about coverflow: the whole thing is amazing. The sound is much better.
The best player I`ve had so far, wait till you have it in your hand and it will win you over!

new nano is cheaper so get new...When you already own a 2G, as the OP does, it is definitely NOT cheaper. Also, since 8GB refurbs are available for $149 shipped from Apple, still not cheaper in any scenario.

I bought a 3G Nano but I have put it aside and continue to use my 2G Nano until Apple fixes a couple of bugs.
I use my iPod almost exclusively for podcasts. As such, I frequently set the start time on a podcast file to 15 or 30 seconds into the podcast. I also frequently convert MP3 files into M4B so that the can be played in the "faster" mode as audiobooks.
My 3G Nano ignores the start times that I set (always starts at the beginning) and it will not play converted M4B files in the faster mode (always plays them in normal mode).
I have to believe that these two shortcomings are bugs and I have reported them to Apple as such. Until they are fixed, I continue to listen to my podcasts on a 2G Nano.
FWIW,
Heather
