I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but when I plug my iPod into my iBook to update it, the playlists will be in reversed order than in iTunes. It happens more often with the smart playlists than the regular playlists. I'm also using iSync 1.1. This isn't a major problem. Just a little hassle because I have some playlists with a few hundred songs and I'd like to keep everything in order.

Thanks:rolleyes:

Hmmmm...just took a look, and it seems that my Smart Playlist for Recently Played is arranged in reverse of the way it appears in iTunes. I'd never noticed this before! (I update manually and don't use iSync, btw.)

You ought to be able to set the sort order of the playlist while you're plugged in to iTunes. Just select the Smart Playlist on the iPod in iTunes, and click on the leftmost tab in the browser window (the one above the index numbers of the tracks) twice, one to highlight it, and once to switch the order.

I finally got around to looking at this as I have an extensive list of smart playlists. This is what I found out.

All my smart playlists sorted in iTunes via artist or album were in the right order. If they were sorted by rating, they were backwards. If they were sorted by playcount or recently played they were off completely (iPod keeps it's own smartupdating depending on when you're playing)

I had one other backwards playlist sorted by album, but in iTunes it was sorted Z-A, iPod sorted it A-Z. Interesting.

So my thought is that iPod doesn't support all forms of sorting that iTunes does, why not? Seems iPod might override the sorting in some cases or might I be off a little on this thought?

That's my experience.

Cheers,

I tried rearranging them in iTunes, but Isobel (my iPod) keeps rearranging them. I thought maybe it was iSync, but if other people who don't use that utility are having the problem, then it can't be that. An update (2.0.1) is going to be released soon, or so I hear. Maybe that will address this problem. Thanks all.

I just thought of something.

What if you clicked on the number row and manually sorted the Smart Playlist as you wanted it. Would the playlist transfer appropriately then?

I'm away from iTunes so I can't test this for myself at the moment, but would be a suggestion. Would take a little longer, but might work?

Cheers,
Stu

In iTunes, you can click on the category, and it either puts it in normal order, or reverse... Check to see that the order is normal...

This probably won't help, but it has happened to me several times before

Hate to bump an old topic, but this is still a problem for me...
