View Full Version : my iPhone's dead, anyone know why?

I had turned off my iPhone (no real reason, just was fiddling around and felt like turning it off) and left it aside for a few hours. When I came back to it, it wouldn't turn on, or respond in anyway to the pushing of the various buttons. When I plugged it into my computer, the comp recognizes that something's been plugged in to the USB slot, but does nothing beyond that.

It was on the charger the entire time it was off, so the battery is definitely not dead. I had jailbroke it, but refreshed it a week ago in prep for the upgrade to 1.1.1 (which I still haven't gotten around to installing yet). It's almost exactly a month old and it's been dropped two times that I can recall, both fairly short drops (<2 feet) and both at least 2-3 weeks ago.

Anyone have any ideas on how to revive it? Anyone had this happen to them as well?

You may try to reset the iPod while it's connected to your computer. If that doesn't bring it up to iTunes, close iTunes and restart iTunes with the iPhone connected and see if that brings things to life.

If that doesn't work restart the entire computer with the iPhone still connected, then launch iTunes.

If that doesn't work, unplug the iPhone. Shutdown the PC, Disconnect the power supply from your computer and wait a minute. Replug in, restart, start iTunes and plug in the iPhone and see if THAT works (this does an odd reset to the USB manager).

If that doesn't work, It's a technical support call for you!

Once you got it connected, I'd restore the phone.

btw, Welcome to iLounge.

Thanks for the reply, Studog.

I'm not sure if I was clear, but the issue isn't that the thing won't respond to my button clicks/isn't being recognized by iTunes, but that it's not turning on at all. And when I said "refresh", I meant "restore", Sorry about any confusion my poor phrasing caused, if in fact it confused you.

I did what you said and I still have a not-turning-on iphone, so I guess it's off to the apple store for me (it's walking distance + they have an open genius bar slot; I figure it'd be better if the tech could see it in person).

Oh Sorry... Not turning on at all...

Well on the off chance that the hold switch isn't on, yep, you are off to the Apple store....

Good luck!
