When can we expect a price drop?

In your opinion, when do you think Apple will drop the price of the Touch? Even though I bought a Classic, if Apple were to drop the prices on the Touch I'd probably sell it and pick up a Touch.

So, how soon do you think this might happen?

For sure not this year, and I would say well into next year, but before you see a price drop more likely they will upgrade the ram and do something like 32GB for 399 and 16GB for 299...

I agree. You will see a price drop just before new models are announced. I suspect around July to September of next year.

I suspect around July to September of next year.This is Apple, you see product X for $399 on Tuesday still available and you then see product X+1 - which beats product X in every way - for $399 on Wednesday and product X discontinued. Wednesday night through Saturday you see thread after thread about how Apple screwed all the people who paid the same price as product X+1 just a few days ago for the obsolete product X.

They virtually never drop the price of products except when the product line is altered in some way. The closest they've come to a mid generation price drop was when they were toying with the 4G/Photos and kept playing musical chairs with prices and pack-ins because they overpriced the photo so much when introduced.
