Ok, so I am a 14 year old, I am in 8th grade (intermediate) and I just got a brand new Ipod touch for my confirmation. I am going to buy a IS for it. I was wondering, do you think this will be enough protection and do you think this is too young of an agegroup to bring an Ipod touch to school? TY

Quite simply put...yes. At your age. you need to forget anything that isolates you from the world around you and focus on socializing. Leave the iPod at home.

I agree with MellowTone. Kids used to socialize so much more and interact with one another. However, now it is all about isolating themselves from the world with their iPods, portable game systems, and computers. Leave all that at home and enjoy your time with friends. I think you will also find that you will learn more and school can be more enjoyable.

Maybe I didn't state this, but my Ipod is for the bus ride home. During school, I pay attention. But do you think its okay and safe to bring my Touch on the bus?

Even on the bus ride to and from school I would leave it at home. It can get stolen, you can drop it, you could accidentally leave it on the bus, etc. If you really need to have music during that time I would get just a cheap MP3 player or a $10 CD player to take with you. Just leave the iPod at home. You really won't miss it that much and if something did happen to it you would be upset with yourself for taking it to school.
One other thing is that I have heard too many stories where students had their iPods in their backpacks or their lockers and ended up having them stolen sometime during the day and don't realize it until they get ready to go home for the day. If it were me I would go for the cheap CD player if you have to have the music on the bus. I usually interacted with my friends on the bus when I was your age.

Eh, I hate the group of kids on my bus. I do socialize in school, just not with these types.
I think it's likely that your ipod touch will get stolen at school or on the bus. If you must bring it with you, don't be showy with it, at least.

Oh, I think for this bus ride then I will just stick it out with my ipod nano 1G. Ty people.

Just wondering what age you consider to be old enough to isolate yourself from the world?

I brought mine to school. I get on the school bus at 5:30 in the morning, so I needed something to keep me occupied for an hour and a half. eventually, someone stole it right out of my pocket.....
I'm getting a new one for Christmas, but that one won't be coming to school.
I lost my $250 Video, no way I'm losing my $400 Touch......

Well I'm also 14, and i bring my ipod to school almost everyday. My advice is, to not put too much public attention into it, as only a few friends know i bring my ipod. I also put it into my wallet (nano), as i can barely feel the nano by itself, so the weight of the wallet is enough for me to tell whether its there or not.

Well, my last iPod Video was stolen from my backpack so I've reverted back to my iPod Mini. Always keep it in my pocket.
I really don't see the problem, as long as you take care of it and make sure that it's in a safe place. All that "isolation" talk is stupid. Unless you're keeping your iPod in your ears the entire day then it's not going to happen. If that's the case then you're probably not very social in the first place (no offense).

Okay. Thanks for all of the replies. I am 14, I hang out with friends and a little music never hurt my social life. If I am to bring my Ipod Touch on certain days, I am not showy. Also, I don't think that these type of kids on the bus won't steal. My ipod also doesn't leave my pocket, or my hand.

Im 14 almost 15 and i honestly view my self responsible enought to bring and take care of my ipod touch , I saved up and baught it myself and iv never lost or broken anything valuable that i would normaly carry around with me exept a phone and yea that was stupid of me but i lernt never go BMX'ng on ramps with a phone in your pocket , I live in ireland and go to school in the country so theres not much chance of it being stolen as Ireland in rural area's has very low crime rate and if it is theif it is normaly livestock .

Get an MP3 player that isn't an iPod, Zune or Sansa (the Zune/Sansa is a recommendation, since they're the 2nd & 3rd most commonly known MP3 players). Those are the 3 most popular models, so they're more likely to get stolen because more people know what they are/what they do.
There are plenty of other alternatives that do more than an iPod for cheaper and don't have the status symbolism attached. Without the status symbolism attached, people are less likely to want to steal them.
Bobbert: I'll give you 37 fainting goats for your iPod... ;) (obviously just kidding)

Honestly, I think a lot of you are underestimating 14-year-olds. Bringing it to school is fine as long as you use it in moderation and not when people are talking to you or in class or whatnot. I think by this age, people should be able to figure out an appropriate place to put it where it won't be stolen...
I've brought my iPod to school for years now and it's never been stolen...then again I've gone to yuppy prep schools where everyone has one anyway.

Honestly if it was a regular "old" iPod I think that you would be alright but with the touch everyone will want to "touch" it. It happens to kids at my school all the time.
Maybe you could hide it somehow?

I bring my iPod touch to school everday. I never use it during school, we're not even supposed to bring it to school. I pay attention, I only get A's and B's. I bring for the same reason you want to, to listen to it on the bus. I always have it in my pocket. NEVER leave your iPod in your bookbag! It is a horrible place to put it. Always have it in your pocket and there shouldn't be a problem. Once I get out of school, I pull out my iPod touch (have people stare at it :)) and listen to Eminem without a problem. Also, I don't have a case, I only have a Crystal Film Set. Hope this post helped.
