i am trying to run my nano through itunes on my work pc (running xp). itunes tells me i need to restore the ipod, don't wanna do that. in my computer, the ipod is not recognized as removable storage, only in the bottom tray by the clock.
how do i get the pc to recognize the ipod? i think i need to change the drive letter as we have several network drives, but without the pc recognizing it i don't know how.
Just looking at the basics - but your company doesn't block the use of removable storage, do they? Even if the system recognizes that its there, they could still have a block that prevents them from being accessible through Explorer. This is common to prevent unauthorized removal of company data, etc.

go to control panel > admin tools > computer management > disk management
there you can assign a drive letter. you just have to scroll through until you see the drive that is likely your ipod. size/name. right click > change drive letter.
whether windows displays the drive after you plug it in or not doesnt matter. if the ipod doesnt recieve a drive letter automatically it will still show in drive management. unless it is broken i suppose.
hope this helps.

Changing the drive letter of the nano to take care of the problems on your networked computer could cause issues with recognition on your home computer so be careful.
