On certen songs on the touch, the album art is wrong, but when i check it in itunes, its the right album art. idk, its werid. For instance i was listening to Jack's Mannequin's "The Mixed Tape" and as the album art it had the PCDs cover. any way to correct this?

Have you used any software other then iTunes to find album art in the past? Are you using Mac or Windows?

No. I don't even use itunes to get my album art. I get them my self and add them to iTunes manualy. I should have mentioned that this has barely started. I got the touch a week after they came out. So its barely started doing this the other day. I'm running on windows vista. help please.

Sounds like something is happening with the Album Art(Which is just a hidden image file) is getting tied to multiple files. If you don't mind me asking, Why don't you just use iTunes to find your album art for you?

honostly?? No clue. Just got use to it. I've always done it. Do u think if I did that, that It will fix my problem?? More then likely, Yes. iTunes is really accurate when it comes to finding album art. And if it can't find the correct album art, it won't apply anything to the file. So you may still have to go out and find album art for a few songs.. I had to redo all my album art in iTunes because the Zune Marketplace used album art which was like 200x200 - Which looked like crap on the iPod Touch.

I don't have a touch or iPhone, but this is an issue with older iPods where the iPod's album artwork cache gets messed up once you have added new artwork at random times. I ran into this issue a number of times when I was adding artwork to my music over a period of a few months. It shouldn't happen any more once you have your artwork done.
Now since I don't have a newer iPod I can only speak about what I have. Look under the iPod's Music preferences tab in iTunes for "Display album artwork on your iPod" and remove the check mark, then click the Apply button. Once the touch has finished resyncing check the option and apply again. iTunes should rebuild the iPod's artwork cache and resync again. Please post back if this works or not.
Why don't you just use iTunes to find your album art for you?
One reason I don't let iTunes find artwork is it does not embed it into the mp3 files. It keeps it in it's own cache in the iTunes Music folder assigning the appropriate artwork to the music file when played. It does work great and does not increase the mp3's file size if that is important to you. When I make my mp3's it is for the long term. I have used many media programs and mp3 players before iTunes and the iPod. I want my album art as well as the other info embedded into the mp3 so it is there if and when something better than iTunes or the iPod comes out.

okay, i was going to try to reset the album art by unclicking the 'sync album' and then syning my ipod and then clicking 'sync album' art and syning the ipod again, but the ipod touch options dont have that feature. so what i'm doing right now is detete everything from the ipod and then puting it back on. if that doesnt work i'm gonna reset the ipod and if that dosn't work, i'll let itunes get my album art. i'll let ya'll know what happen.

I had the same problem, so I restored my touch last week and it seemed to fix the messed up album artwork. But today, it started again.
What's the weirdest about this is - I'll just give an example -
Playing a Jack Johnson song it shows me a Psychedelic Furs album cover when in portrait position. When you turn the touch sideways, to the cover flow view, it shows the correct album cover !!
So what gives? I don't want to restore my touch every week or more - it is the slowest synching ipod I've ever had - the 16 GB touch is so much slower than my 60GB Video iPod, I can't believe it.
I'm enjoying actually seeing my album covers while playing music on the touch (I realized some covers I had never really "seen" before), but it's not much good if it doesn't show the right one. Anyone have a fix for this?

Maybe you have 2 album art pictures associated with 1 song.. I would recommend removing all album art and have iTunes search for all of it.

I don't think I have any multiple covers associated with 1 song, but I suppose it's possible. Is there a quick way to remove all album art? Like a box you check somewhere?
I have used the new iTunes to go get album art, but I assume it's only getting art where I don't already have it? It doesn't take that long (I have 8500 songs) and ends up telling me there's about 95 songs it couldn't find art for - most of those are either no album title songs or some oddball albums or things that were not sold commercially.
For now, I'm going to bed while my restored touch syncs 2000 songs. :p

That's what I did with mine. I just wiped it then synced, and had no problems since then.

I got the exact same problem! Only that itīs the other way round: When i have the list view the artwork is ok, but when I go to the cover flow view some artworks just get messed up and I donīt know why. Some artworks are not shown in cover flow at all even though they are shown in iTunes.... I donīt get it!
Is there a real solution for this problem? Cause deleting everything and syncing again isnīt really the best thing as far as Iīm concerned. Just takes too long.

no solution yet, i think its going to have to be a patch on itunes end. Only recently on my iphone i have been having the same problem. All the artwork displayed fine until i added more songs. Whenever i add new songs i go to my "iphone playlist" and hit "get album art". The issue is portrait art work being wrong, but then cover flow is correct.

same problem here. Only happens on a couple albums at a time and it's either wrong in portraint mode or wrong on the album list in portrait mode but never wrong in both places.
I usually delete that album from the Ipod and then re add it and it's fixed but then another one ends up being wrong later.
I noticed it after the latest patch

Yet another reason why the iPhone does not have the best iPod ever made. On a personal note, ive tried hard to see cover flow as a "cool" feature, but its more of a novelty in my eyes. As long as the song plays im ok.

I ended up getting this problem as well. Whats real strange is that random screen shots from video podcasts were becoming the album art... I had to delete all the music from my iPod and put them back on. So far, everything seems good.
I spoke with apple today and was told that if you are using vista you have to restore you touch every two weeks because something with vista corrupts it... hope that helps..btw I have the same gd problem.

Literal LOL. Its been over a year since this topic had it latest post(Which I see was by me). And in that year there have been updates and even new iPods. I've never had this problem since my last post and to blame Vista would just be stupid.

I do have the exactly same problem with my iTouch even now....   Mine is the 1st gen iTouch. The same problem exists even after it was upgraded to the latest 2.2 firmware from the original 1.xx firmware.
So far the only way to solve it is to clean up iTouch's library and resync the whole library again. It takes several hours!! .......I'm using Windows XP(not Vista).
This problem only occurs on iTouch. I have my 160G iPod syncing to the same iTunes library on my PC and have no issues at all with album art.
This is annoying as the big big album art display on iTouch is my favorite feature. I'm so sad that it is erroneous in the album art display:( :( :( :( I'm seriously hoping that this is going to be fixed from the next iTunes/iTouch update.

I'm having the same problem on my 2-week old 2g Touch (32gb)
Cover flow is fine, and has always been, but on search by album cover, as well as search by artist then by album is messed up.
I deleted everything last night and reloaded all my music, and everything was fine for a few minutes, but once I loaded a few more albums, the problems came right back. Here's basically what happens:
All album artwork fine
Load album A onto touch
Album artwork for B, C, and D are now wrong.
Delete album B and reload it onto touch
Album artwork for B is now fine, but now E is wrong.
(continue over and over)
I did stumble upon one interesting thing though. This problem seems to be more severe when there are album titles with non-standard characters in them (periods, +, etc). I had a few albums that had titles those characters in them, and deleting them helped a BIT.
I now have almost 60 albums on my touch, and only 1 has incorrect artwork on it, the best it's been in days. However, I'll be willing to bet as I load more podcasts, albums, etc, that it'll get messed up again. This is really a problem that apple needs to address. I can probably live with it, but for $400, i really shouldn't have to...

You may want to try Restoring the touch using iTunes, it will erase all media files off the iPod but other settings and info will be restored with the iPod's backup. My library is fairly well complete with Album Art now and I don't change it much anymore. I transfer any where from 5 to 10 different Podcasts and TV Shows per day as well as a few smart playlists changing music all the time and rarely see any album art problems anymore. It was pretty bad when I was updating files regularly but is pretty much non existent now.

deleting everything and restoring did fix it, for now.
But I have a feeling that with he frequency of complaints about this, that it's not an isolated problem, and will probably happen again. Deleting and restoring every 2 weeks is a really crappy option to fix a problem that really shouldn't be happening.

I did the iTouch cleanup, which automatically erase the iTouch HD and restored it to factory default, totally took 4 hours as it claimed...! Then I reloaded the music onto it. So far, I've updated the iTouch library 2 times, not any album art mess up yet.....Hope it can maintain that way, but like everybody I'm afraid the mess up will come back sooner or later.:o :o :o :o :o

This original thread is pretty old and after going back I see I didn't have the touch when this thread was started but I now own one. This issue is seen pretty much on all iPods. As I previously stated this issue seems to be related to randomly updating album art on your music in your library over time messing up the files on the iPod that keep track of this info. The problem should pretty much stop once you have finished adding art to your music. It is possible it will occasionally reoccur, but it should be very rare. It doesn't seem to reoccur when adding an album here and there but just doesn't like mass changes.

Might have to disagree a bit with you there. I upgraded from an 80G iPod classic that I had for over 2 years, and it never ONCE happened to me on that. The only problem I ever had with that one was once I had the problem where it looked like all my music was gone, though it really wasn't (unfortunately, I found out there was a fix AFTER I reformatted)
Anyways, I think it's a Touch problem.

I have seen this happen on a 5G iPod, 1G, 2G nano and my touch. I can't say it has happened on my 4G nano yet. It may never happen on every iPod, but if you search the problem here it has come up in every forum here on iLounge for every iPod and the fix is pretty much the same thing.

Grr. I've restored my 2-day old Touch twice and the art is still screwed up; the (not really) interesting thing is that it's using screenshots from music videos for some of the art. When restoring didn't work, I even went in and deleted (manually) the art through iTunes, synched, re-added it, synched again, and the only difference is that it'll go grab some NEW incorrect artwork to use. I am using Vista, but have never had this problem with any other iPods I used with it (1st gen nano, Classic, new nano, 1st gen Touch). It's not a huge deal, I guess, but it's exactly the type of thing that's enough to drive me absolutely insane, especially since the album art looks so blasted purty on this thing!

Found a quasi-fix, at least temporarily and for those who don't have a ton of albums that are messed up. I just added an extra space between the 2 words in the album title and then re-associated the correct album artwork with the "new" title, and it appears to have worked. I have no intention of doing it for a bunch of albums, though. I really hope Apple comes up with something to fix this issue soon.

Same problem here and I just notice that the problem happen with certain artworks that I suppose do not have a compatible format with the itouch software. I tried this
I removed the art from the song with the symptom (incubus cover while being a queen song, but right cover in the cover flow), then I assigned the queen cover of another queen's song which art was displayed correctly and it worked!
So i assume that if you paste manually the artwork like I do, since itunes always fail to find the right covers, you may have added pic that are not in appropriate format. Now the logical question which is the right format for artwork?

Here's the fix. You don't have to do a full restore. Your iPod's artwork cache is corrupted -- rebuild it as follows:
1. Connect your iPod and select it in iTunes
2. Click on the Music tab
3. Uncheck "Display album artwork on your iPod"
4. Sync your iPod
5. Recheck "Display album artwork on your iPod"
6. Do another sync
7. Enjoy correct artwork!
This should rebuild the artwork cache file on your iPod, and all should be fixed.

This fix works with most iPods except the touch and probably the iPhone since it runs the same software. There is no "Display album artwork on your iPod" option available on their sync settings. Only way to refresh the artwork cache is to delete/resync the offending music. I say it's easiest to just Restore the touch.

open iTunes
select list view
search for the artis
see if it shows there twice.
if so, you'll need to edit the information so that it matches.
that should then cause the artist/album problem to show
only one album. UNLESS it is a multi-disc set, of ccourse
