I know many people have had this problem, but I was wondering if maybe there was a solution.
I have an older 10gb Ipod, and XP. XP will not recognize it, however my Ipod charges. I have an older mp3 player that uses USB 2.0, and that still works fine. I was wondering if I could somehow get my ipod plugged into the USB port?? Thank you for your help. BTW it does not have a dock connector.

Only third generation (3G) iPods with the dock connector are USB compatible, first and second generation (1G and 2G) iPods only work with firewire.
What program do you use with your iPod?
You might want to check to see if your firewire card has the latest drivers it needs.

I have musicmatch Jukebox and Itunes, but none will recognize it. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver, but the system says that it cannot find software to update it. Do you know where i could get software that would make my firewire port work with xp? hopefully free.

You can try the microsoft windows update site to see if a windows update or driver is needed.
Did your computer ever recognize your iPod or is this the first time you've tried to connect it?

I've had it since December, and it never has recognized it. Windows does not have any updates, and I know that the firewire port works, because it charges my Ipod, it just won't get recognized. I appreciate you helping me. Thank you - Aaron

You're welcome, that's what the lounge is all about.
Because the iPod is hit and miss with a lot of firewire cards (the card might work, just not with the iPod), you might want to try your iPod with another computer to make sure that the problem is not the iPod.

As soon as I find someone that has an Ipod, or a firewire port, I'll try it, and then post back here. Thank you
