i dont have anything on the screen but i have a silicon case from DLO that also has a thing on the back to hold your headphones. its real good and protects from a drop or screen banging on stuff. it came with a screen protector but i couldnt figure how to put it on so i dont use it. the touch's screen is very scrtch resistant and i dont really think you would need a screen protector

Something like an invisibleSHIELD (http://www.shieldzone.com/ipods/) or GuardFilm (http://www.guardfilm.com/iPodTouch.htm) will do the trick.

I just have an Invisible Shield. Then I can just wipe any smudges off on my sweatshirt. :)

I don't think the touch screen CAN be scratched easily. It's made of real glass (so don't drop it ;o).

I think Apple had their head up their a$$es when they designed the back of the iPod Touch though. It would have been better to have used anodized aluminum instead of this shiney instant-scratch faux-chrome finish. The back of mine is scratched all the hell, and it's Apple's fault, not mine :o)

So, don't even bother trying to protect the back... just accept that no matter what - it's going to be covered in scratches.

Oh and for smudges - I find if I keep the iTouch in my hip pocket, it automatically desmudges magically.

I agree; an anodised back is the way to go. In the early days, yes, the chrome was cool, but now it's just a nuisance (unless you're the kind of person that doesn't mind your gadgets getting scratched).
