Hello Everybody, Just started having some issue with my Ipod Touch. When I plug into my dock connected via USB I get a error in windows xp pro saying "USB Device not Recognized one of the USB devices attached to this computer has malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it." This is what I have done so far:
- Reset the Ipod touch (all settings)
- tried all usb ports in the back I dont have any in the front
- unistalled and reinstalled Itunes
Please please help. Thanks

I had that happen with an Nano I had. Following some instructions from someone's reply, I formatted the drive in disk management, then it found my Nano once the format finished. I then did a restore, put my music back on and all was good after that.

You sure you're connected to a USB 2.0 port? Might be an issue with port speed?

Yeah I had no issue connecting up to a few days ago.

Yes. Formatting it like you would any hard drive. I was stumped like you until I found this resolution. Restoring it on another computer did not help either.

How can you format it? I thought the iPod Touch didn't allow you to mount it like older iPods like the Nano.

Complain to Apple? Obviously you can't detect a Touch under my computer like you can any other iPod, so you can't format it... You could try restoring it on a friends computer.

I would uninstall iTunes, then download and install a fresh version.
1. Copy your iTunes folder under your My Music folder to a temp folder.
2. Uninstall iTunes.
3. Reboot.
4. Download iTunes. Install.
5. Reboot.
6. Copy the iTunes folder from temp back into the My Music directory.
7. Open iTunes.
8. Attach the touch.

Additional:
I know you mentioned that you had already uninstalled iTunes but please note that I mentioned reinstalling a fresh copy.
If that doesn't work then you will need to reset your touch to the restore level. A complete wipe. Then connect.
