I've start noticing that my 4 months old iPhone home button is starting losing sensitivity and it takes several attempts now to work. An Apple store employee told me that this problem is not covered by the warranty and to look at services like http://www.iresq.com.

I understand that the home button is a consumable part, but it sounds weird to me that such a key element starting failing so early wouldn't be covered by the warranty.

Is anybody else experiencing similar issues and / or has been successful in having the Apple store repairing the phone under warranty? Thanks

That Apple store employee was an idiot (big surprise).

It most certainly IS covered by the warranty.

Agreed. Take it back there and don't leave until they agree to fix it. That's a warranty issue for sure.

Just to close this thread, I took an appointment with the Genius Bar today, showed the phone and the issue with the home button malfunctioning, got a new iPhone as a replacement, walked away after 10 mins. Excellent customer service.

Learnings from this episode: The sales folks roaming around the shop aren't necessarily equipped with the knowledge to help customers for support issues. The Genius Bar folks have the authority and the knowledge to help resolve customer issues like mine. Go straight to them.
