Hi, i am about to get an iphone and had a couple of questions about the service plan. Currently im under a family plan which is all done through my dad, if i get an iphone i really have no desire for it to have internet and everything else, i pretty much just want an ipod touch with a phone on it. Will i be able to keep my current plan or do i have to get a specific iphone plan? If ATT forces you to get an iphone plan is there any way of hacking it to not need one? so the iphone can recieve and send calls and text message (already have a text plan)? Also if i do have to get an iphone plan do i get a discounted one since its on a family line? thanks.

The iPhones come intimetely with their data plan.
You can add an iPhone to a family plan, and I think will cost around 29.99 to your current costs (9.99 for the line, 20 for data). An iPhone can not be separated from it's data plan easily.
Some people have been successful in failing the credit check during activation and making it a pay as you go plan.

If you are already with AT&T though you do not need to go through a credit check. My iPhone is the "additional" line on our bill and all that changed was that when I activated it with iTunes it asked which data plan I wanted ($20 being the cheapest). So unless you want to break off from your dad's plan and do a pay as you go I think you're going to pay the extra $20. I think that a pay as you go plan would end up costing you more however.

My line on the family plan costs about 15 bucks a month, so the iphone data plan on a family line would only be $20 a month more than the 15? I saw on their website that the cheapest was somewhere around $59.99, is it cheaper under the family plan?

That's for a new line of service (39.99 + 20 for data). If you have an existing AT&T plan, you only need to add the $20/mo for the data. There are mixed reports about the iPhone being able to dip into an existing family plan's unlimited text messaging. You might want to phone AT&T to see if you can do that. Otherwise, the $20 only gets you 200 texts.
