Hi all,

I recently made the switch from Vista to Ubuntu. I love it so far and I've found a replacement/workaround for everything I ever did with windows. The only thing I have yet to figure out is a way to put music on my iPhone.

I've read threads on VMWare's site saying that trying to use a VM to sync doesn't work yet. I'm wondering if anyone knows of any hacks to get music on the phone.

Thanks!

Bump?

I'm switching my wife to Ubuntu.

Do linux iTunes like Amarok, Banshee or Songbird work with the iPhone?

Is there a way to get iTunes working under wine?

Is there really a VMware incompatibility?

As of right now you can sync your phone with Amarok and gtkpod. I've been having problems getting the artwork to display properly, but others have reported success. You can follow the thread at the ubuntu forums for more info about it. It's pretty long, but worth the read.

The Thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=588246)

There's also a wiki howto pertaining to the phone. (https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PortableDevices/iPhone)

Since there seems to be a healthy discussion on the thread, I'd recommend posting any follow ups there. Took over a month to receive a reply here :-(
