I currently have an ATT/Cingular Family plan with 4 cell phones.
What is the cheapest way to buy an iPhone and add to my existing family plan? I am wanting to add another line (total of 5) - not to replace one of the existing 4 with the new iPhone.
Should I go online and add another family plan line for $9.99 a month. Then purchase the cheapest phone I can get? (I can get several good cell phones for $0 through our company ATT sponsorship plan).
Then order an iPhone or pick one up at local ATT store?
Then when I register the iPhone on iTunes, will it allow me to add it to the new family plan line? The additional cost will just be the data $20 dollars.
So if I can go this route, I can add an additional line and use the iPhone, and the total cost per month will be an extra $30 dollars.
Is this the best way? Thanks to all in advance...

sounds like you got it all figured out. Only thing I would worry about personally would be if there is a contract extension for that sort of thing. You have 5 phones though so I doubt you are concerned with that.

gswilder,
did you add a $9.99 plan first?
cause' i would think that when you go to activate your iPhone on iTunes, there would be an option to add a line during the iPhone activation process

you could do it either way...when you activate the iphone through itunes, it gives you the option of creating a new line, or using a current one.

I was planning on opening a new account at the ATT store so I can get a free phone to use in certain situations/as a back up (I work in/around water sometimes) and then activating my iPhone right afterwards. So can I just activate my iPhone as soon as my ATT account becomes active or do I need to wait a couple of days?
Thanks,

Hello there everybody, this is first post, glad to be here. And so on to the reason I'm posting this message. I also have a question about the family plan and the iPhone. I've had my family plan for a good few years now and I pay the $9.99 a month since I'm not the main line. I basically have the same question Greg or gswilder had except I want to replace my phone or line with the iPhone. Will I still be able to pay my $9.99 a month and the additional $20 a month for the unlimited iPhone data plan or will have to pay $59.99 for the 'cheapest' iPhone plan. Will I have any problems in setting this up since I already have a line or will I have to create a new line to get the $9.99 plus the $20 unlimited iPhone data plan? Sorry that the message is kind of long, but I want to buy an iPhone real soon and this would help me A LOT. Thanks!
