I hear rumours that the battery gets worn out after about 18 months (depending on use). As far as I can see that battery is not changable, and the iPod itself will be out of warranty. Is this at all true?

Also, should I run the battery down fully before charging up again, or is it ok to charge it up regardless of the power still in the machine.

ALSO some of my songs have a 'popping' distortion when on the iPod, I can't figure a pattern to tell why they pop and others doesn't. I have volume levelling applied but no the other enhancement option.

iPod 30Gb, Windows, MusicMatch

cheers dudes

The iPod battery has a life of about 500 cycles (1 cycle is a battery drain and a recharge) depending on how much you use your iPdo the battery could last for as short as 6 months to a year or as long as 9 years.

The battery is changeable through the battery replacement program through Apple which costs aroudn 100$ American I believe if the machine is out of warranty. If it is still under warranty send it to Apple and they should replace the battery for you for free.

The iPod's battery is not like older rechargeable batteries where you need to completly drain the battery before charging it or you would damage the battery. You can charge the iPod's battery at any time risk free.

Regarding your last question are these songs form a downloaded source or form your own CD's? If they are from your CD's the CDs may be damaged and they may need to be cleaned. If you got them downlaoded perhaps the quality is not very good. Test the songs that "pop" on your PC and see if they are distorted on there. If so than tis definetly the songs. If ntot heres some distortion problem with the iPod.

Hope that helps!
