I have ordered a 20gig ipod from the apple website which will be used on a PC, and it will be shiped to me on the 5th of Jan. i was wondering what i should do to prepare for my ipod so i could start using it right away.
I really dont want to get the thing and have to spend all night trying to find out what i need to get it going.

a couple of things i want to do with it
- use it for music of coarse.
- im going to need it to transfer data from one computer to another with no drivers or software installed.

so if you could tell me what problems you had when you got yours going for the first time and how to get it going, then that would be great.

Thanks

1. Make sure all your ID tags are in order in each MP3.

2. You will not need drivers, but some people may not have Firewire, so get yourself a USB cable for those people...I did.

I plug my iPod up to a few pcs and windows does all the work :D

everything THEMEMANIA had said, and.

3. check to make sure all the computers you mentioned are running XP / 2000 / Me (heard Me has all sorts of problems tho').

4. make sure they have firewire port, if not, see if it has a USB 2.0 port and get the USB wire
(1.0 works, but it's a pain in the ars* to wait for the files to move, and praying that the battery doesn't die out before that.
I'd suggest getting a firewire card if you don't have USB 2.0)

5. install iTune / your program of choice on all the computers you're intending to use, set up the library of songs you want to move to the iPod on one computer. Once you get the iPod, sync it with that computer, then turn off the auto-sync option on both computers.
