Can anyone tell me if i encode my music with neromix aac and transfer them over to the winpod 30gig with ephpod, will the ipod be able to playback the music????
Anyone tried using the aac encoder from nero??

Nero AAC/MP4 encoder works great. I use "Normal/High" setting for excellent quality at ~160-192 kbps. In order to use Ephpod 2.70a to transfer your .mp4 files, you will need to rename them to have .m4a extension. For best results, make sure your filenames are in this format:
Artist - Title.m4a

Tell me is the sound quality as good as that recorded from itunes as in the encoder that nero are using?
Also from what i gather itunes is the only thing that give the id3 tags with the aac. Will nero do this as well?? as in can i have genre, artist etc... searches for my aac audio tracks??

There are only 3 AAC encoders worth a crap at this point. I have tried them all on hundreds of songs and here is how I rank them, starting with the best:
1) Nero MP4 plugin (descended from the Psytel encoder)
2) Sorenson Squeeze 3.5 (Fraunhofer Professional encoder)
3) Quicktime 6.3 (Dolby Consumer encoder)
For VBR I use Nero, for CBR I use Sorenson. Quicktime 6.3 is fine for CBR, too, but it doesn't support batch encoding, which is a real bummer if you have thousands of songs you want to encode! Do not use any older versions of Quicktime because they are buggy and produce unnecessary artifacts. If the file sizes of Nero "Normal" are too big for you, you can use Nero with the "Streaming" preset, which delivers VBR at around 128 kbps - it sounds just fine. You may see the old Psytel encoder floating around on the web - I would avoid it because development stopped on this encoder when the programmer went to work for Nero. If you want to hear what your mp4 sound like before you move them to your iPod, use the mp4 plugin for Winamp from rarewares.hydrogenaudio.org
Good Luck!
EDIT: No there is not a very good tagging solution for MP4 yet, but people are working on it. You can at least edit the "tags" in the iPod's database with EphPod.

Cool, you guys are legends. Can you tell me one thing. I know that if i use neromix and the mp3 plugin it records in the id3 tags and an ipod can read them. Does nero mix and the aac plugin do the same for mp4 files that it creates???
Is there any way of id tagging mp4 files or is there any program that can do it?

Heh heh - you need to buy the plugin, it's only 15$! I would reinstall Nero after installing the plugin to make sure it's updated to the latest version.

you can get it here: http://www.builderadius.com/ephpod/ephpod270a.exe
btw, can anybody tell me where to get the hacked version of the 1.3 update for windows? without it, the new aac-capabilities of ephpod 2.70a are very useless to me ;)

PS: When stored in a folder structure like this
"c:\my music\artist\album\01 - title.m4p",
Ephod will automatically fill in the correct tags into ipod-database!
Spike, how do you get this to work? I do have "Use Directory Structure if no tag available" checked. My songs stored like this:
D:\music\artist\album\track# - title.m4a
But when I "Add Songs", the artist, album, and track# tags are not filled in.
EDIT: Maybe this only works with songs made by iTunes?

You're absolutely right, its not working, sorry about that. I must have used a mp3-file instead of a m4p-file, but I don't understand why its working only with mp3 files ?? guess it will be implemented in future releases of ephpod
