Hello and welcome to iLounge. You will want to use a video resolution of up to 640X480 (this is for 4:3 content with widescreen videos having a shorter height) if you want good quality when outputting to a TV. The video bitrate should be at least 1Mbps (1000kbps) but I tend to encode at 1.5Mbps as that extra 500kbps can really add quality in certain parts of a video. I also suggest encoding your audio at the 128kbps bitrate. The frame rate should be the same as your source material, never change the frame rate. The audio frequency should also be the same as your source material. DVDs are encoded at 48KHz while audio CDs are encoded at 44.1KHz just to give you an idea.
The program you use for encoding videos will either make it a nice procedure or make it hard for you. Let us know if you have any trouble encoding your videos. Just make sure to post back the video resolution, video bitrate, video format (ie standard mpeg-4 or mpeg-4 AVC), audio bitrate, and audio frequency along with the name of the program you are using. That way, we can fully help you.
if i encode a widescreen dvd to 640x480...
will the video look slightly distorted?
should widescreen dvd be encoded 720x480? so it looks good on my tv?
will this still play okay on the touch?
