The games that work on the previous iPod 5.5 don't work on the Classic. You need to purchase the new games for the Classic. Go to the iTunes game section to see the games that are compatible with the Classic.

ah yes - you have found one of the 'features' of the new classic iPods. You must re-purchase the games - 5.5G games will not work on the classic - no matter what. 4 games are now available for the classic - but even if you've owned them prviously, you must re-purchase the games for them to work. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news. Write to Apple and let them now that you're upset about it!

So when you buy a new computer or OS, you expect all the software from the old computer or OS to be compatible?

When you get a new video game console, you expect all previous games for consoles from that company to be compatible with the new one? You plug NES games into your Wii and get results? You play GameBoy color games on your Nintendo DS? You play Playstation One games on your PS3? Or does Nintendo make you re-purchase the NES games you had for use on your Wii? I do believe it's the latter.

Sorry, but your logic is silly. The classic is a new model with a new OS and new features. Yes, it requires new software, and that includes games, because the screen is a different resolution and has more colors, and the OS utilizes the processor differently.

I can't play Windows 3.1 games in Vista. I can't play Mac OS 8 games on my Intel Mac. It's the way technology works-- You get new features, and you lose some older ones.

Now, I do believe that it would be nice if Apple would give you credit for the games you purchased so that you can re-purchase them at a discount... But you're buying games for a new platform, so the stance is not unreasonable. Also, how could they prove you aren't using the games on another iPod?

If you want to play the "last generation played them so why doesn't this one?" card, then ask it of all tech companies. Ask why you can't plug your printer with a parallel port into your new computer. Ask why you can't connect your HD-DVD player to your old tube TV that only had the two screws for an antenna connection. Ask why your audio player doesn't allow you to play 8-Tracks and MOD files. Ask why your car doesn't run on leaded gasoline. Ask why you can't plug a PS/2 mouse into a new laptop computer.

Technology moves forward, and some things get left in the dust. Deal with it.

You have the choice to own the new technology, or to stick with the older model. Apple didn't put a gun to your head. They didn't stop supporting the 5G iPod yet. You traded up because you wanted the new features, and you got the new features (coverflow, better screen resolution, component TV out, upgradable iPod OS, bigger hard drive). You have to accept the CHOICE you made, and realize that you stepped into a NEW PRODUCT. Not your old iPod made better, but a NEW iPod with NEW features and DIFFERENT capabilities.

You don't HAVE to purchase the new model, or the new games, so please stop with the offended consumer act.

Adapt or get out of the way. You could always buy a Zune, you know.

Jesus jump the gun a little bit? Your point is mute by the way because the games look and run EXACTLY the same on the classic to what they do on the 5th gen (Vortex/iQuiz). When you get updated versions of sofware for new platforms they offer NEW FEATURES or NEW GRAPHICS not the EXACT SAME port.

Why would I pay $5 for the EXACT SAME game to play it on a new iPod? Thats just stupid they should be giving incentives to justify paying for the same game over again OR be offering it for free to those who already bought it for the 5th gen.

Component TV Out is supported by the 5th gen already, upgradeable iPod OS? All previous iPods have this as well. Improved Screen Resolution? No its the same just brighter and sharper the Classic can display JUST as many colors as a 5th gen.

You talk about technologies that have been dropped, the difference between say hooking your printer to a USB port instead of a parallel port is that changing this IMPROVES upon the performance of your computer as well as the printer there is a good reason for it.

Dropping 3rd party support for video out components? ZERO reason other to get someone to waste more money on a 3rd party accessory that is the SAME as the one he already purchased with the exception of a leeto apple chip! YAY GUYS!

Not allowing people that already paid for the same game credit for the new game on their classic? No reason other than apple wants more money.

Dropping Some Photo Transitions? Absolutely no reason to do this either makes absolutely no sense. Other than the developers were too much in a rush to release it so they just skipped porting some of the transitions over.

This is the same product that apple told everyone that the classic was in every way a "upgrade" from the previous generation? No, in fact there is only three things I see as a upgrade..HD Capacity, Battery and a interface that gets stale in 2 weeks.

hey,

im not sure why this is such a big deal, i jsu think its a bit unfair that i paid quite a lot for my 8 ipod games and i would hasve liked to play them on my new ipod. it seems wierd why some of them are compatible yet you STILL have to buy new ones.

i will email apple and jsut get this confirmed, and see what they say about it if theresd any real reason why they ahd to make ti so you buy them again.

thanks

Can any one tell me if Zuma, Royal Solitaire, and Cubis 2, will work on the 160 ipod?

Texas Hold'em, Tetris, Ms. PAC-MAN & Sudoku are the games that can be played on the iPod Classic, Nano (3rd Gen) & iPod (5th Gen) only as stated in the iTunes Games section of the store. The other games play only on the 5th Gen iPod and not any of the other iPods.

So the games you posted will play on the 5th Gen iPod and not the iPod classic.

This is typical pathetic extorting policy of Apple! I hate apple and I am extremly sorry and sad I ever got an ipod!

Typical "noob" behavior by bumping a thread that is 1.5 years old simply to make a point that they hate Apple. I am sorry but the iPod classic has been out long enough that people should know what they are getting into before purchasing it. Additionally, everyone should conduct research prior to purchasing an iPod even if they have owned one in the past. I don't understand how people can spend ~$250 without conducting any prior research.

Yes, it sucks that Apple did this but people should know better by now. Additionally, gaming companies do this all the time. The Xbox is not compatible with newer Xbox 360 games and the same can be said for the Xbox 360 working with older games (it will work with a very small percentage of them). The same thing goes for the PS3 now, it won't work with PS2 games.
