Hello guys,

I have had a browse through this site picking up useful info and other peoples comments prior to purchasing. So thank you. As you can now see im a newbie to the site, also im a proud new owner of a week 39 16gb touch which I purchased at Regent St London, this morning which was a fresh batch in, they were selling like hot cakes when waiting in line.

I can also say that I appear to have no problems with the negative black after using appleservedup nor any dead pixels. Woo Hoo!.

What I would like to know is, does the camera connector work for the touch?, if not, do you think there will be a firmware update allowing you to?.

Thanks in advance.

Colossus

P.S wrote all this using touch, I love it! Awesome gadget.

Welcome to iLounge!

Not sure about the camera connector you might email apple or call them about it... then let us know ;)

I think Apple phased out support of the camera connector with all current generation iPods. I think part of the problem was that the camera connector was only compatible with a handful of cameras anyway so the chances are pretty high that your camera wouldn't have worked anyway. It really only supported cameras made in 2004 and 2003.

I remember reading somewhere that alot of newer cameras that weren't on the supported list did work, such as the Canon 400d (which I have).

I think I might just take my iPod touch, my Canon Ixus 75 and USB lead, buy it, and try it then and there in the shop, if it don't work, get a refund lol.

The short answer is no.

The iPod Camera Connector is actually not supported even on the new iPod classic.

Basically, any iPod model after the 5.5G is unsupported (only the 4G photo/colour and the 5G series were ever supported by this accessory in the first place).

I suspect that Apple discovered that this item was not as popular as they had anticipated, and there were a number of other issues and pitfalls that people experienced with various camera models, particularly when dealing with RAW format images. Since this unit also requires firmware support on the iPod itself, Apple likely decided that it was not worth their effort to redevelop this part of the firmware for the new models.

Anyone try this lately or find more research? That is one thing that would really appeal to me, even to download photos into it as hard drive storage. I'm using a Canon Powershot S50 which is a few years old anyway. Else I suppose I can get the Belkin reader for my 3rd gen? I had to dig my laptop out of my trunk on vacation a few months ago as I filled all my cards one day. It would be great to download right into the touch.

No, unfortunately the situation is still much the same as I outlined above.

Very few of the specialized accessories for the traditional iPods are compatible with the iPod touch (or iPhone) beyond the basic accessories such as speakers and interface cables.

i have the connector and a 5th gen video iPod... works with my sony dsc-w110 i bought last year - by what i can gather it looks for mass storage devices via the connector. the iPhone doesn't like it though lol
