Ok so like alot of people here iv being watching every development in the iPod touch hacking saga (lol, yes saga) via every forum and blog and everything else, and noticed a few things, mainly the Iphone hack/unlock debate keeps getting mixed up in the iPod touch jailbreak developments/news debate .

So what I did was crated a blog, “ipodtouch2007.blogspot.com (http://ipodtouch2007.blogspot.com/)” which will keep focus purely on the iPod touch hack and iPod touch related news. Thought it might interest likeminded people on this forum.

The first thing I would like to do is release a simple step by step guide to the new tif exploit as at the moment I don’t think it’s a good idea for the average iPod user to try the hack just yet.

Also do u think it is a good idea to try the hack out straight away or do ya think it would be better to wait and see how other users get along first?

It would definitely be a better idea to wait a little bit. I am going to wait until they get everything worked and learn from other peoples mistakes (there are going to be a lot of them.) I do not want to screw up my touch just because I could not wait a couple days.

No way I'd do it right now. I like being able to you know sync my iPod Touch. :)

Yeah me too, that is one of the big reasons I am leaning towards not doing it.

I am going to wait myself.

Ive seen to many panicked posts of people thinking they have bricked it, then fix it, then cant figure it out... I cant handle messing with my favorite new toy just yet.

I'm going to wait to see whether the mouse gets away or the cat kills the mouse.

What I'm really hoping for is that all the work on hacking will lead Apple to open it up more. I don't want to be able to control NORAD with my Touch, I just want to do some simple things that will make it more useful. Hopefully Apple will allow that soon.

Bingo. Just going to wait and see what develops over the next week or so.

i have a quick question regarding google maps on the touch....by jailbreaking it and adding google maps functionality, isn't that exactly the same as going to google maps thru safari? in other words, don't you need wifi access for both? what is the advantage of having the google maps app?

I believe you are correct in that you need wi-fi for both and it would be the same as you visiting Google maps in Safari. I guess the benefit is that you don't have to open up Safari to do so, there is a icon right there on your iPod touch's desktop. I would personally wait for all this jailbreaking stuff to clear up. It looks like there are some benefits now but Apple knows that people have hacked their iPhone/iPod touch so a new firmware release is probably just around the corner. On top of that, we don't know if all the kinks have been worked out with this jailbreak stuff.

I think you should hack straight away then post your findings on your advertisement so it's useful to the rest of us. Take one for the team, man.

Actually from what I saw the iPhone/jailbreaked Google Maps was optimized for the iPhone. Using it throught the iPod Touch under Safari isn't exactly easy to use. Kind of a pain actually. I think the iPhone demo on the Apple website shows it. Lots of zooming and dragging around to see things.

Yea it would be wise to wait a little bit longer until the jailbreak method is solid, and its easy for us non-tech folk :)
