I had the opportunity to pick up an 8gb touch on saturday, and I think it's worth every penny. I walked into my local best buy, not even thinking about the touch, and saw a single 8gb ipod in the display case by the mp3 players. After paying $329 cdn for this gadget, I'll admit that it's one of the better investments i've made in a while.
I was in class today, and they have an open wifi network on campus. It was awesome being able to quickly wikipedia a chem formula in the library when all the desktop computers were full. What made it even better was doing so while listening to Gate 22 on the touch, after having previewed and downloaded it a few moments earlier.
After I got home, I decided I'd head out to the patio and read for a bit while lying on the swing. I had the trusty ipod with me, and nothing was more relaxing than reading a book, listening to tunes, and chatting on msn using meebo.com on the touch.
This thing is absolutely amazing, the old ipods I admit were boring in comparision to this multimedia gadget. If you weren't yet sure if you should pick one up or not, I would highly recommend it!

it's a 38, so I never had any issues with the screen.

Don't worry about the week build any longer. That was so yesterday. ;)
Anyway, I agree : the most AMAZING device ever. I use it for everything. Nothing beats how thin it is, it's capacity, and ease of use with multitouch.

It is amazing. I have to say, though - the multitouch is so intuitive my wife doesn't even think it's special or anything. It seems like something that has just been around forever. Gotta love a product that just works.

I agree, it seems like a lot of people are disapointed with the touch but I love mine. I am on it all the time now, its amazing!

I must also have to agree. The internet ability on the touch alone is well worth it :)

Mine should arrive in UK tomorrow, I got a week 37 dodgy screen from a local store last week, couldn't believe how fast and easy it was to get on the internet within seconds of switching it on and going to the lcd test page before I took it back - LOL same day as the firmware fix came out. Week38 should arrive for me tomorrow! :)

I really like mine too. It's great when I just want to check out something on the web and my wife's on the computer. No problem, I'll just fire up the Touch and I'm off!

I'm thrilled with my Touch too... People aren't used to seeing these yet. I've had a dozen different people ask me if it's an iPhone. I must say the internet is the best feature.

Funny you should say that. People usually ask me a series of two questions when they see me with it. "Is that an iPhone?" and if I say no, "Is that one of those knock-off iPhones from Korea?"
That being said however, it's the best gadget I've ever owned. The only thing I don't like about it is the smudges. :(

I just got my 8GB from the Aventura Apple store a few hours ago, with 2.3GB left after all my vids, songs and pics... I gotta admit, it's an impressive feature set. No flamingly apparent hardware problems... I do hope, however that a more familiar wheel-based interface becomes an option in future firmware.
Four hours in and I still kinda forget that the designated parts of the screen can't be touched while playing music
overall B+ or A- so far

A couple of months ago I read a quote by someone here on the board. Live by iPod ---Die by iPod.

Thanks for the meebo.com link.
I can see this coming in handy!
I was having issues with the syncing but a powered USB hub saved the day.
I love this thing!

does AIM work on the touch too, if using the meebo site? also you said your campus have an opened wifi network, well mine is locked and someoone mentioned that the iphone touch will work on locked network. i just want to make sure the wifi can be used on secured wifi network.

Yes, meebo will work. And yes, you can acess locked wifi networks by entering the password.

That is a great saying. "Live by iPod ---Die by iPod" I will have to adopt that as my new saying.

Held and played with my first iPod touch today in the Apple store of the Eaton Center in Toronto. I have read so many reviews and seen so many demos I knew exactly what to do. Damn it is sweet. I tried out everything, music, videos, photos, websites. The screen was beautiful, videos looked amazing. Coverflow was really snappy, playing with the photos, resizing -- going back and forth, what a breeze. I have to get one of these things. My birthday is but 16 days away. :D
