I need to preface this by saying that before receiving my touch, I'd been using a mini, and honestly hadn't kept up on the changes made to the subsequent models since I bought mine in late 2004.
That being said, I noticed that the touch cannot handle a simple command that my mini could ... namely, shuffling music, and KEEPING it shuffled even after the unit is powered down or I've chosen a specific song to play.
I use my iPod mainly in the car, hooking it up to my Harman Kardon Drive + Play. This stereo connection disables the iPod itself, bypassing its controls for those of the DP. If I have my music set to shuffle, it's fine, but should I choose to play a specific song, the shuffle option gets turned off, and my music from then on out plays in alphabetical order by song title. Since the iPod unit is unresponsive when hooked up to the Drive + Play, I am now not able to listen to music in anything but alphabetical order.
I think Apple really took a step backwards by not allowing shuffle to remain the default. I called Apple this afternoon to see if maybe I was doing something wrong and the very nice young lady explained to me that my mini may have been one of the last iPod models to allow shuffle to stay the default when the unit is powered down, as all iPods since possibly the video have not been able to allow shuffle to default.
Am I nitpicking, or does anyone else miss the default shuffle option?
