I just got a new 3g 40gb iPod, and am extremely excited. I like the base, how one can plug their iPod in and have the music come out the line-out, and I like how simple, yet elegant the iPod case is that comes with it.

Unfortunately, after reading a lot of posts on this forum, I am a little scared for the safety (and looks) of my iPod using that case. I just bought a Speck case for the time being, but would like to have these desires met:

1. Ability to dock and have the audio coming out through the base.
2. Ability to have my iPod feel as secure and easy to access as the Apple provided case.
3. Overall protection so when I pull it off my side, I don't have to worry about dropping it naked and watching it get a huge dent and scratches on it.

Do any of you have any suggestions as to how I can have these goals met?

Thanks

Ray

PS. Some day, the I would like to see is a waterproof hard case with a headphone jack. Hopefully some talented person out there wants to take up that task. I am thinking something similar to one of those waterproof camera cases. I know about aquapac, which is cool, but a hard case with a clip would be GREAT! If anyone makes this, I will buy it. :)

First of all... You should almost _never_ dock your iPod with a case on it. It causes heat buildup and can hurt your iPod.

Onto cases... One case I hear that is great is the iVod by Vaja. It's probably one of the best cases out there. Another good case is called the Booq PodPaq. However, the Booq case does not have a screen protector, so you'd need a PDA screen protector. However, it does have a flap that protects the whole face of the ipod. So honestly you don't really need a screen protector.

Anyway, do a search on google.com for mentioned cases so you can see if you like them. :D

There should be a review for the iVod on this site.

Thanks for the input. I have been eyeing the Booq case for a few days. I believe that is the coolest case I have seen so far. I understand what you are saying regarding the heat issue. I noticed that my iPod got slightly warm with my Speck case, and I want my iPod to stay as cool as possible at all times.

As for the screen protector thing, I found the JavoEdge protector in the Gear List, and that looks promising. I might just go for the Booq PodPaq014 and that protector.

I have a Lilipod and have enjoyed the security I feel when I have it out and about in rough environments. It has a crushproof, watrerproof case that allows it to be stuffed in bags and tossed about with little regard to damage.

I have had it in a very cold damp environment and other than opening it to start a long playlist it just layed around on the floor of my tent for several days.

I wish I had something to give me that safe feeling at the office since I have pulled it off my desk a couple of times and bounced it off the floor.

Give it a try!

can u use the remote? how do u control it- do you always have to take it out of the coffin, i mean case? If i get the case, i dont always want to have it take it out to fast forward or something.

The remote use was one piece of "constructive" feedback that I had for the designers. Because of the type of connector that is used it makes it difficult for the remote to fit properly. They are working on that issue I am told.

I generally use it to play either long playlists or books so I am not taking it in and out of the case often.
