So I have been thinking about getting a ipod touch, since I have U.S cellular and I can't really change....and I thought about the possibility of getting a iphone and not getting the service...and I have some questions.

1. Am I losing anything besides the phone without the service?
2. Is there the same wifi b/g as the ipod touch?
3. Does it have all of the features that the ipod touch have but more, without the at and t service?
4. Can I unlock it for U.S. cellular?

thanks!

1. Yes:
- camera
- text messaging
- EDGE
- mail
- stocks
- weather
- maps
- full calendar support (adding appointments)
- loud speaker
- microphone (for 3rd party voice recorder applications aswel as making a phone call)
- people have stated a better screen on the iPhone compated to the Touch
- external volume control buttons
- iPhone comes with a dock

That's all I can think of right now.

2. Yes they both have the same Wi-Fi (b/g)

3. Yes every feature apart from the iTunes Wi-Fi music store (which is going to be added very soon via a firmware update)

4. Yes you can unlock it.

I had the choice between the iPod touch and the iPhone and when I thought about it, it was a no brainer - go for the iPhone. :)

if you were thinking of unlocking the iPhone and using it on U.S. Cellular's network, you can forget about that because US Cellular is a CDMA network and the iPhone is a GSM phone. 2 different network technologies.
You can however use an unlocked iPhone for surfing the net/emailing on wifi, listening to music (iPod function), camera, and anything else that doesn't require a cell network to do.

3. The Touch has video out capabilities and the iPhone does not.

For anyone that has used an FM transmitter with the iPhone, have you had any issues with it, after using it for a while? I'm told that while most transmitters will technically work, the ones with cigarette lighter power connecters provide more power than the iPhone is designed for.

Im sure I read somewhere that the new iPhone firmware update will include video out.
