I'm open to all suggestions. I am asking for my first real set of headphones for christmas. With this new found love of music I might as well do it right and get myself a great pair of headphones. So what can I get for $50 or under? Or maybe a little more. I have been told that the Sennheiser PX 100 are yummy. After reading reviews and opinions it would seem this is true. Can anyone object or redirection me toward a better pair for comparable price.

what ever you do stay away form the PX100, the Grado iGrado are the new rulers.

you could also have a look at the JBL reference 410's, if you like your music full fat.

buy the PX100's and you'll regret it, not to mention you'll be missing out on some fantastic sound from the iGrado's. not to boast, but take a look at my signature (below), believe me, i know what i'm talking about.

by the way, new additions to the collection include, Yamaha neckstrap earphones, Sony CD280, MDR 710, MDR-XD200's, Sennheiser HD201's and a pair of Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 5EB's. just to keep you up-to-date.

The Senn PX100s are still good headphones by anyones standards. The iGrados are also good, though need a bit of modification to sound OK. Perversely the best way I found to do this was to put the PX100 pads on them, so that their treble was no longer muffled. After that their sound was just as good as the PX100s - maybe even more dynamic. However eventually I sold them as I didn't like the street style headband, and they were not as compact as the Senns for folding up in your pocket. Also aesthetically they were rather ugly. So portability and looks won over marginally better sound.

PX100 are very comfortable, and I hardly notice them as I'm playing. The sound is reasonably detailed and open, with a solid bass. I really love the carry case! I also suggest you check out some Audio-Technica and Pioneer headphones. They are nice headphones as well!.

^ what they said!

also get a listen first!

px100's really kick, for what they are!
don't expect any isolation unless you listen quietly. but for general walking around town or if you don't mind this anyway, they're killer.

I found the Audio-Technica ATH-WM5 (http://www.warehouse123.com/ProductInfo.php?pid=AUTATHWM5-BLK) headphone block out the sound very well. These headphones are light, portable and easy to store in the supplied case. AT's SQ are always promising!

I love my PX100s. I use them all day at work and love them so much I bought a second pair for use while walking the dogs.

I also have a pair of CX300s, and I used those for almost a year. They're great, and I still use them when traveling. But I just can't take anything stuck in my ear for any length of time any more.

As someone previously mentioned, the iGrados would probably be a good bet too. I'm curious about them since I also have a pair of Grado SR80s. These are my 'recline on the couch and chill' cans.

believe me, the PX100's won't make an impression on the iGrado's or JBL 410's.

DON"T NOT BUY THE PX100's

The px100's are still good, they have definitely more clarity than the jbl's. I have both. Jbl's have tons of bass and are closed so you do get some isolation but not too much.
