am i the only one who hates the new location of the hold button? with the change in the body dimensions and the location of the new hold button, it makes it extremely difficult for me to flip the hold switch with one hand... discuss.

I agree.... It's the only thing I dislike about the new nano.

The hold button is one of the main reasons I'm returning my 3G to Best Buy. I run with my Nano, and with the Nike kit inserted, the hold button is almost inaccessible. I could live with the weird size (although I don't like that either) and I wanted the video and the extra size, but I found it so uncomfortable to use while running that I'm sticking with my first gen Nano until they come out with something better.

The Nano is supposed to be the "active' Ipod. They really dropped the ball on this one.

I have to agree the hold switch is in a bit awkward place to use on the new nano. Especially if you don't have nails.

However, I find I almost never use it at all. I use my nano almost exclusively for running (it's the reason I bought it in the first place) and I have never had a problem accidentally doing anything while I'm running.

maybe a bit awkward, but I guess its supposed to be it is afterall supposed to be difficult to press accidently to be honest it doesnt bother me at all.

I use my nano for running, the new form factor is also fine by me, easy to carry or put in a key pocket I have in my running shorts.

I never use the hold switch when running and have never changed anything accidently, if I am struggling or doing well when running I want to change the track and dont want to have to flip hold switch (wherever it is) and then change...easier the better - fewer steps the better.

I never realised just how crappy of a design the flush clickwheel was until I started using my 2G without a case. If not for learning to use the hold switch as automatically as the clickwheel, it would be completely unusable.

I've not got my hands on a 3G yet, so maybe this issue isn't all that, but, in all honesty, the hold switch *needs* to be readily accessible for general use.

That's exactly it, Code Monkey. I throw my current nano in pockets, I have it at weird angles in my hand when dealing with the dog leash, I fast forward songs while running, etc. The easily accessibly hold switch was an absolute necessity for me. And the more I use the new one, the more awkward the size becomes. It's too wide to hold in one hand, particularly when you're trying to deal with a dog leash in the same hand. The old one was perfect. My plan now is to return the 3G nano and possible pick up a new 160G Classic. I can use that on planes, trains, etc. with everything on it, but my First Gen Nano is going to remain my running partner.

I tried the Touch, but I couldn't get over the feeling that I needed some sort of velvet pillow on my lap to protect it when I used it. I'm sure it's sturdier than it seems, but I want something I can throw around a little without panicking.

What else can I comment on apart from what is fine for me? thats what we are here for :)

When not running I keep it in the change pocket of my jeans, the little tiny pocket inside one of the large side pockets, where I can see the hold switch at all times but the pocket is too tight to use the ipod in so I just flick the hold switch and take it out change the album then put it back in.

I never use tampons, but I'm sure the ladies here wouldn't see much value in me concluding they serve no purpose because of that fact ;)

If it was phrased like that and I said only that then you would have a point, but what I actually said was "to be honest it doesnt bother me at all." I didnt say it didnt matter just that it didnt bother me specifically.

I outlined my use and why it wasnt a factor for me, thats useful first hand information, readers can read one persons usage and why it doesnt work for them and similarly read my usage and see that when it isnt an issue then perhaps decide where they might fall, its exactly the purpose of forums such as these.
