Hey guys,

I'm from Australia and the iPhone probably won't be released here till mid next year. I want to get either an iPod touch or an iPhone, the way I'm thinking is if I'm going to spend $550 AUD on a touch I may as well spend $650 on an iPhone (through ebay).

Now, on ebay people are selling unlocked iPhones and also iPhones unopened, with the unopened ones selling for less due to not being unlocked.

I am not very technical when it comes to hacking etc, I can follows instructions as long as it's easy enough. So, is it easy? I've tried searching on the net and I come up with various sites, different types of hacking methods, unlocking methods etc. What I want is a proven, easy method to hack and unlock and iPhone (on a mac) to work with a GSM sim and have all apps working properly.

The only thing that concerns me is future updates, I don't like the thought of having to rehack my phone. However even if used without the phone I still can use the apps (ipod+wifi), so I'd be the same as if I had bought the touch.

Anyone have any comments, can point to some good websites that have detailed instructions from opening to hack? Should I just buy the already unlocked iPhone, or should I just stick with the touch until I can buy the iPhone legitemately?

My iPhone comes in this week. This is the Guide I'll be following. It's a good read just to see what you have in store.

Well if you're using a mac, i would recommend you use iActivator (found here: http://www.modmyiphone.com/wiki/index.php/IActivator_easy_iPhone_activation)

It's a fairly simple (I've never hacked anything before i did my iPhone) way to unlock, has an easy to understand set of instructions.

Good luck!
