has anyone heard a response from apple yet on this problem i mean this is there flagship new product wouldn't they be better off coming clean and letting customers know that they are having some problems. anyone here heard anything from technical support on what apples thoughts or response might be. would love to here from anyone who has had any such conversations

Admitting it will allow even more people to be aware of it and would be a definite surrender to them saying that "our quality check stinks". I don't think they want to risk sending this message, so they will simply just ensure that manufacturing will fix this problem up and eventually, as more and more new units ship with no problems, the ones that do have the problem will eventually phase out.

yes but wont they have to do a product recall? if this is just a dodgy batch then fine they should stay silent but if this is happening to a lot of them world wide then they need to be letting customer know about how to identify a dodgy screen or hissing audio perhaps they already know which batches are faulty but i think a response from them is warranted i would rather know that apple were aware and being pro-active in helping fix these problems out

Personally I doubt Apple will lift a finger to recall any units. They'll replace any that get taken in to them and probably just rely on everyone else not having a clue what to expect from such a device, hence saving them the hassle and expense of swapping it for them.

They will not admit that they have a problem. That would just lose business. They also won't recall them, unless it's a serious issue. Like the explosive batteries they had before. I'm 100% sure though that they are working their backs off to get these problems fixed and to get their next batch working perfectly.

But pretending they never hear it will anger their customers and their loyal fans. If they response, people will feel like their needs are attend to at once and continue to love Apple.

I think Jobs will do something bout it. He gave you 100$ credit for the iPhone didn't he?

I agree, for Apple to admit this would cost them a lot of sales. On the other hand, Washington Post has already picked the story up in their review and others are sure to follow.

At some point they have to weigh "lost sales" against being seen as doing the right thing.

Some users who HAVE the problem don't care, because they don't watch movies on the device. Apple knows this and doesn't want a stampede with thousands of owners swapping units that they are otherwise happy with.

I have a 30 day return policy on the one I just got from Best Buy (which has the problem). I will be monitoring closely, hopefully I can exchange for one that does not have the issue within the 30 days. If not I can always return it and give it another month to see if they eventually get it sorted out.
