Here's the deal: I want to use my good headphones, but still be able to make calls using the headset and nifty remote-control button. I know about Shure's Music Phone Adapter, but I already have a 6' cable and would prefer not to add any more, and besides it seems like overkill when I already the perfectly good mic/button that came with the iPhone. What I'd like to do instead is buy a splitter, plug my headphones into one jack and the Apple headset into the other. I'd never use the latter for listening; I might even take some wire cutters to them and only have them for the mic.
Is the only limiting factor a need for three connector bands rather than two? If that's the case, it looks like this (http://store.everythingiphone.com/content/accessories/12-45--2967.htm) will solve my problem in a couple of weeks, but I'd rather know before buying.
