The Touch and the Nano will sync slower because they have a flash drive instead of a hard drive.

On my old 30Gig, I can sync over 800 songs in 15 minutes and on my iPhone, it takes probably twice as long.

Maybe somebody can explain this to me. I understand from what everybody says that the flash ipods sync slower than the hard drive ipods. But why is that? Aren't flash memory access times faster than hard drive access times? I mean, the hard drive has to spin up and rotate and all that other mechanical stuff, right?

Most flash drives are slower than hard drives. The main thing about flash drives is that it is VERY power efficient, thus have a longer battery life. For certain operations that are short and quick, like compressing files, saving files, the Flash Drive is faster than a 7200rpm, but for prolonged tasks such as syncing large amounts of data, the 7200rpm hard drive beats it.
