...I'd like to know what these are before I purchase one.
What screen & sound problems? I tried them out at the apple store and they seemed fine.
Or am I missing something?

And people just post "there's a defective screen" or post a video.
I don't see anything defective about it. What am I supposed to be looking for? o.o

Why look for problems if your not having any? If it looks fine to you then don't worry about it. As I said before, there's a million threads about the problem and a Google news search or just reading the threads will give you more than enough info. If your video looks fine to you, great...your one of the lucky ones and you don't have to worry about it. If something looks off with the black in the video or you have to hold the touch at a perfect angle to get a good picture - then you have a problem.

No I mean I don't have an iPod touch.
I wanted to get one, but these problems I'm hearing about intrigue me, but I can't seem to find much detail on them other than "dark scenes look like crap" well what, in comparison to the iPhone or just the screen is crap quality or what? And sound problems? What sound problems? I tested out the Apple Store touch's and they seemed fine...or should I know something I don't? o.o

Ah, so that's in comparison with the iPhone. It's just that the iTouch displays darker colors closer to black than their true color so everything looks muddled I guess.
I wonder if this is just a manufacturing defect. Good thing I didn't get one yet. Does everyone have this problem or is it a select few iTouch's?

There's really not much you can do other than get one yourself and see how it performs. Not all units are affected by the problems while some are affected by both audio and video problems. Get one from a store that you know has a good return policy incase you do run into problems and you'll be fine.

For audio check if there is a noticeable hissing sound. For video, check how the picture looks in dark scenes in particular (clarity, how black are the blacks, does the screen look saturated, etc) and see if you have to watch the video at a perfect angle for it to look good (you shouldn't have to), if you don't have those problems than you should be ok.

Apple probably denies this defect.
I wonder, if I just go into the store with a defective iPod I hypothetically just bought, will I be able to take it back with the excuse "the screen is defective" and get a new one o.o

Come to think of it. When I was at the Apple store and playing that In the Fray music video, the video seemed to clearly lack contrast, and was more grayish dark than actually saturated (yes at the highest brightness setting)
